I use the Turtle Wax Wet Look tyre dressing, it comes in a spray bottle, I put some on a sponge and apply it with that, it prevents overspill and it last’s a lot longer

The day has arrived!

Thanks to knightrider, I now have a set of brand new T-Sport 15" alloys to fit on our Yaris. Cheers mate.

Will post up a pic or two of the new look for those who expressed an interest.

Lee also threw in his old locking wheel nuts which I think he'll admit have seen better days, so my next question is: what do peeps advise me to replace the locking ones with? Which model of locking wheel nut do folks recommend for the Yaris T-Sport alloys? As usual, all advice gratefully received.

:D

Glad you got sorted out mate - the oem toyota ownes are pretty soft and distort easily. After long involved decale with kwakfit I ended up with a set of McGuard ockign nuts.

Think they run about 25-30 ... available most places

Cheers for that. Yep, finally got some, brand spanking new too... Fitted now and looking good.

Now got a full set of nearly new (genuine 1400 miles) steels with 175/65 R14 Goodyear GT2 tyres and unmarked Toyota Yaris trims for sale...

Another littlte tip.. if you put some washing up liquid on the alloy itself it will make it easier to clean any little drops of tyre paint that gets on them off.. if you know wat i mean. The liquid sits on top of wheel and the paints lands on that then just carefully wipe clean. :)

OK peeps, here's the pics of the 15" T-Sport alloys fitted onto the Yaris.

(Hope this works...)

And a closer view:

I know that to those with T-Sports or other alloys already fitted this may look as no big deal, but I think she looks a lot sexier with these new wheels... Mrs Sooty suggested that we should look for one or two other subtle shiny additions to act as highlights against the dark green bodywork.

Maybe she'd look better with slightly lowered suspension... Hmmm, what comes first, chipped or dropped...

After I'd cleaned it (Mrs Sooty was doing the ironing - hey, fair trade :D ) I went for a blast round the block. Grip is a lot better and I felt much more confident throwing her into bends. Maybe dropping the suspension will also reduce the body roll which I find excessive compared to my Leon but then I'm not really comparing like-with-like. Mrs Sooty drove us a few miles to our fave curry house last night and she likes the new look and feel very much.

Thanks again to knightrider for the new wheels.

glad your happy with them and the suspension will make it look so much and handles a treat too, handling is more important than tuning in my eyes

Living up here in the frozen north I've fitted mine with a set of winter tyres. She may look stock at the moment, but she corners like a limpet on heat - even in the snow. Its like having 4 wheel drive. Maybe a bit of overkill down in your part of Englandshire though... (Can't wait for it to snow again ;) )

Cheers for the tip about the locking wheel nuts Clarky - I'venoticed the allotys don't have any so I'll be investing in a set in the near future...

Don't get tri-locks.. ( the ones with 3 holes in the nut and 3 pins in the key.. they just break off or holes go oval) complete and utter tosh

The best type to get are these ones or ones that look the same. (they come in nut and stud veriety)

LOCKNUT.jpg

You won't get the problem where the nut starts to wear and the key just slips off... beleive me i do them umpteen times a day.

Hmmmm Using Sony Image Station, which can be a bit hit & miss... sometimes seems to take a while before the pics upload when used in postings on forums. :(

From Toyota... "D-4D actually stands for direct Injection 4 Cylinder Common Rail Diesel Engine."

Oil burner - All the best folk have them!

It's basically Toyota's current generation of diesel engines. It means, for example, that mine has more torque than a T-Sport, but still returns 50-odd miles to the gallon even when driven with a heavy foot. Its a good little engine, and good enough for BMW to use it in the diesel version of the Mini. Needless to say, its both turbocharged and intercooled.

Now, if they did a diesel version of the T-Sport.... (I keep hinting at this  )

I was going to say theat the was more info on the Toyota UK site, but there isn't - typically <_< .

If you are interested in more diesel stuff and lots of advice on technical bits and tuning/modifying diesels, you can always have a look in seatcupra.net at the TDI forum. Lots of peeps in here who don't drive SEAT or VAG cars - everyone's welcome, just like you've all made me welcome here.

Also try dervhead.com, every derv powered lump is covered here - I'm trying to encourage the Toyota D4D section on here... :)

The nice chap at K+N Filters tell me that the Yaris filter is 257mm x 116mm ...

I've checked my filter and it looks pretty close to me, so that means us derv heads can fit 'ordinary' Yaris performance filters.

Which is nice :D

Can any d-4d owner tell me what the fin on the intercooler is all about?

If's to increase the airflow to the intercooler, how come it's not sited right at the back .... and will moving it backwards improve performance?
