Rav 4 1994 Fuel Consumption

Just after some advice really. Bought our Rav back in the summer (it has 136K on the clock) and have noticed that the fuel consumption may not be too good. I get about 90 miles if im lucky to about £15???

Also i think it canes the fuel on the motorway as when you get to 70mph it gets really nosiy and you can see the needle slowly going down. Ive also noticed that the engine gets very hot (after 5 minutes, bonnet it too hot to touch) you can observe this in the rain, as you can see steam coming off the bonnet. But water temp is fine??

Any advice will be greatly recieved.

Cheers

Steve

Check out http://toyotaownersclub.com/forums/index.p...pg++consumption

for a discussion on the MPG, both actual and indicated on the trip meter.

As for the engine running hot, I've had Toyota's for many years and the engines do "run hot". On many occations I have noticed steam rising from the bonnet in the rain. However, I've never had one where the bonnet is too hot to touch, might be worth a quick check at the dealers.... <_<

Hello Steve,

We too bought our 98 (old style 58k) Rav in the summer and the ONLY downside in my opinion has been the MPG.

Without the fuel consumption computer of the newer Ravs, the only way to get an 'accurate' MPG is a couple of brim to brim tanks and work it out from there, I am only getting roughly about 29-30 mpg, which is less than my V6 Vx Omega!

Dont have the problem of the bonnet getting hot though!

My better half swears she can see the fuel gauge needle actually moving down too :(

Good luck

Steve
