There is a school of thought that says they're a cake because they go hard if you leave them out but biscuits go soft if you leave them out.

Never left one long enough to find out :D

Also, if they were biscuits, surely they would therefore be named "Jaffa Biscuits", but they arent, they are called JAFFA CAKES :D

I rest my case! Or should that be cakes?:lol:

I'l go with the cake option please :) Most biscuits generate crumbs (unless you gob it down in one!) you just don't get this with a jaffa.

It’s a cake IMO

Has anyone else noticed that when you take out the Jaffa’s (Original ones) out of the box they are wrapped in clear cellophane, why is the one cake at the end turned the opposite way?!

Check it out next time you get a packet.

Definitely a cake. Biscuits are crunchy, jaffa cakes aren't ( unless you leave them to go stale. )

As Braindead said, the difference is that if you leave a cake to go stale it becomes crunchy. If you leave a biscuit to go stale it becomes soft.

This is the easiest way to tell for once and for all.

Therefore a Jaffa Cake is a stale biscuit????

( wish I hadn't replied now. I'll have to go and get some - purely for research of course. )

Its deffo a cake as this debate im sure was briefly on some random telly show. Mr Jaffa himself wrote in and said its a cake!

On a side note if you mix orange juice with tia maria it tastes exactly and I mean EXACTLY like a jaffa cake.

PS I dont drink girly drinks a girl told me about it honest.

I was told a while back what it actually is.

My boss told me the tale of the Jaffa Cake and classifying it for tax purposes (may have even been a court matter).

My boss is very boring and the story was very long, so I started daydreaming and so I don't know what it is.

I could ask him again, but I have work to do...lol
