The Yaris Is As Hard

Hi everyone

Just thought i would tell you what i saw on my travels driving around doing my job. I was in the town of Leighton buzzard and i had parked up my van to do some delivery's. On my return to the van i heard tyres screaming followed by a loud bang.

When i ran around the side of the van thinking that someone had ran into the van i was surprised to see that a bus what just hit by a yaris. A T3 if you wanted to know the model. The yaris bumper was hanging. But dam you should have seen the state of the bus. The yaris had hit the bus so hard that it had bent all the wheel arch in so that the wheels couldn't turn no more. I couldn't believe. Now really the yaris should have been wrecked.

So there you have it. I've seen it now the yaris is a tough little cookie :thumbsup:Thanks MR T for building a safe little run about

I wish I'd have took some pics of the Focus that hit me as that was in a state - then again so was my car!

They are tough little cars and they're mega safe - in fact I'd put money on that they are the 2nd safest small car out there (Renault Modus is 5 star rated safe), but I reckon if they tested the P2 Yaris, it would be a 5 star..... no doubt about that!

I think some of the safety features they improved for the P2 and NCAP tested the P1 back in 2000 and gave it 4 stars....

I reckon the P2, if it has all this extra safety kit, must be a 5 star car. In my personal crash test, I rate it 5 stars!

Top safety scores! :D

shouldn't the Yaris have been a wreck?

most cars these days have crumple zones, which make a real mess of your car, but absorb a lot of the impact, protecting the people in the car.

When someone crashed into me in my first IS in a old fiesta - my car was destroyed - whole front end was wrecked, and it ended up being written off.

It's really true i was quite shocked to see what had happen. What makes me think is that the yaris is so light and yet still so strong  You would have thought that the car would have to be a lot heaver to be this strong? huh modern materials used in car industry today it's amazing ah

I'm another who can vouch for the Yaris's crash safety.

Did you know that buses are never designed to withstand side impacts or rollovers? It's pretty scary really...

Earpl, the P2 has luxuries like seat-mounted side airbags and 3 3-point seatbelts in the back - all things that count in safety tests.

Alan

What the Yaris failed on with the initial NCAP testing has been rectified on the updated (Phase 2) version. Like Demonic Angel said, if the Yaris was tested again (the P2) I think it would get the 5 stars no doubt about it. Not a lot of people know that! There was a link not so long ago about the differences.

When I say fail I mean it got 4 stars and not 5! Things like sills, side air bags, ABS as standard, 3 point rear centre seat belt and I think the A frame or B pillars have been strengthened on the new one.

I think most new Toyotas now are built to a much higher standard hence their growing popularity.

My missus has a Yaris and I drive it more than her! It’s a lot easier to get into than the MR2 and surprisingly quick. My dodgy shoulder plays up getting in and out of my car (too low, or I’m getting too old) Also I like being that fraction higher up which is great for seeing things I normally miss sat on the floor!

the P1 T pot has side airbags, and rear seats i wud neva have 3ppl in anyway so the centre belt is redundant

Me neither, but the belt's there if 3 midgets need moving anyhow!

I didn't realise the phase 1 TS had those fitted - you live and learn...

Don't most buses have glass fibre or aluminium panels? They would absorb a lot of the energy of impact. Like earpl said, what if the bus had hit the Yaris? It would have been a different story then, more momentum (bus has a lot greater mass!).

Still a tough little car. I'll dig out the pics!

Here you go... What happens when a Kawasaki tries to overtake and misses.

Managed to drive back from Wales to the Wirral though it was a little scary on right turns! Like I said, tough little car.
