Hi everybody

Just doing a bit of research into changing my speedo/ rev counter to something like a 7" screen does anyone know of any products that does this?

Heres a picture of a sera with it done (it's a really shame that the guy live in Hong Kong)

What do you think? is it possible? i don't really know what to start with? do i need to plug some thing in the ecu? :help::help:

Thanks

Tim

do i need to plug some thing in the ecu?

Its a bit more complicated than that..

You'll need to crack the code in your ECU that reads off the speed and RPM sensors, and program a microcontroller to convert that data into data that you can see on a screen..

If you don't know anything about electronics, I can provide a contractor to do the job for you for about £30ph.

Thanks,

That looks cool!

Is it just a standard PC which takes the inputs from a circuit and outputs them to a small screen???

Or is there a bit of kit which does it all for you??

Wouldn't like the thought of it been on a PC and crashing halfway down the motorway (that's the pc crashing not you! )

cheers for the info

I know alot about computer but not much at all on electronics :!Removed!:

So does this contractor do this sort of thing all the time?

LOL... PC crash thats why i want to use a mac

I think this could be great because in theory you could have skins for different seasons which would be good.

any other tips i need to know about? it looks at this rate it's going tobe a full custom job

if it is a custom pc job to do it, then there's tonnes of info on the web about taking inputs from other electronics through serial and parallel ports on the web. Don't think I'd fancy the boot up time of a PC!

It sounds expensive and will probably not be usable on the road, nice idea and I hope to see screens like that in cars of the future, with downloadable skins - could even be the screen for the stereo, and maybe a press of the button would change the rev counter into a GPS system??

How about this:- it doesn't help me with the speedo bit but...

a UI for a mac UI

and buy one of these Mac mini

and then a Touch screen and maybe a tom tom gps unit

This could work, it would also given me DVD playback and burning, Itunes (which i can sink my ipod) , i could check my email in WH-FI spots as well plus a good place to back stuff up. could be great fun .

Now back to the speedo thing. i thought someone was just going to give me a link and two clicks later it's at my door step. but it dosn't sound that easy :-(

Regards

Tim

Sounds like one of those ideas which just starts to sound better and better, but more complicated!!

It does sound a good situation, you could have audio, tv, dvd, gps, games, email, internet, and your dash all running from the same device.

How long to those mini-macs take to boot up?

Sounds expensive and probably not road legal, but fun at the same time!

i expect the sera is too old to be OBD2 interface compliant??

if it was you would be fully sorted!

theres little bits of software and link leads you can get and you plug it into the diag port on the car, everything from RPM to AFM pressure, injector pulse can be displayed
