Anyone Tried Tomtom Mobile?

I just got an Orange SPV C500 mobile phone - which I have to recommend to anyone after a decent phone

Just wondering if anyone has tried tomtom mobile, it turns your mobile phone into a GPS satnav system which will talk you through your journey etc like most of the in-car sat nav systems.

It looks good, but I'm just not sure if it's worth the money? It's about £140+VAT which gives you the software and a bluetooth GPS receiver - Anyone tried it???

Cant say i have, sounds interesting tho, does it cost you anything, using the services??

a lot cheaper than ur average sat nav system, but then whats the qulity of it like, and if u have to pay x amount for such services then in the long run, which would work out cheaper

tomtom seem pretty good tho

No you don't pay anything to use it :D

I have installed the software on my phone to see what the quality is like and it seems excellent, the voices are loud and clear and the maps are fairly clear even on a mobile phone screen.

You can subsubscribe to a monthly thing where they send you traffic alerts but I wouldn't bother with that. You can also download the safety camera database to it, then it will warn you on your approach to speed cameras and accident black spots.

It also shows you where places of interest are such as:

petrol stations

hospitals

pubs

restaurants

etc

Sounds pretty cool - but just wanted to hear from someone who had actually used it to see if they thought the screen size was acceptable etc.

I suppose the screen size doesn't matter as you are not supposed to look at whilst driving - you just follow the voice commands??

not really!

There is 2 versions one for Symbian type phones like the Nokia 6600 and another version for smartphones (running windows mobile 2003) I use the latter, strictly speaking I don't think you are supposed to install the software, but as it won't work properly without buying the gps receiver I don't think it matters too much. Runs a bit like a demo without the GPS unit
