Yeah it does speed things up but it also has a couple of adverse effects.

It can noticably slow your pc down (depending on the spec of your pc and some other factors), particularly if you are using the tabbed browsing feature. It also hammers the servers of the site or forum you are connecting to with unexpected trafic. This can result in being blocked/banned by some sites or forums.

To be honest, its best not to do it, however I must be honest I was tempted myself.

I actually saw this on a tv show last night and all about Firefox, open source and trying new things NON MS.

They had this program, looked exactly like Word, prints out like word buts only like £10.

Linux is the future... its growing rapidly apparently!

If you want to move away from Microsoft try these;

Suse Linux

Open Office

Yeah, I've been running this config mod for about a year now, and works a treat. Haven't found any downsides myself...

I also use Open Office, which is so much less 'buggy' than Microsoft Office.

With regards to Firefox, be sure to upgrade to Firefox 1.0.1 due to newly exploited security loopholes. You can't download the patch on it's own, you have to download the whole file again (circa 4.7mb).

The good thing is that it keeps all your settings, including this modification mentioned here.

.: Download here:.

Sweet.

did the mod, and big difference and i'm on a lowly dialup connecting at 38k :(

also now i'm surfing at uni on some link thats seriosly fast and its just so quick!!!!!!

also firefox seems a lot less succeptable to spyware/viruses etc than internet explorer and if your on a dialup it displyas the page as it loads which is very useful

It is possible but every time I’ve tried to dual boot with Suse's it has corrupt some of the dll's in the system32 folder
