I Need A New Engine :(

So go my MR2 back from the garage and the chap ays that looking at it, it sounds like the little ends gone.. He also wants to take the sump off to have a look.

He says that no matter how I go about fixing it the engine HAS to come out and he thinks it would be better to get a low milage engine to put back in rather than trying to repair my 170,000km engine.

He said it would be better to get a salvage engine out of a car rather than going for a recon.

Has anyone been in this situation before as I have no clue and want to do the right thing.

There are a few engine specialists round here, should I just goto them and ask them to sort it out? Or should I go on Find-a-part for the engine?

I really dont know what to do. :(

Try a salvage yard to see if you can get an engine and gearbox complete. Two problems solved in one go.:thumbsup:

Agree with Dak. especially as yours is a higher mileage.

If you get a new one though, you'll have a spare that you can get rebuilt/repaired at your leisure, then stick it in the back of the garage In case it happens again someday. Or sell it on.......there's a good market for good second hand engines.

I really am worried about the voices,

What is the point of spending £1000 now when I know I want a Tubby conversion in a years time.. I dont want to spend that amount of money just to be back where I was before.

Its looking like £1000 for a n/a or £3000 for a super tubby.. so in real terms I'm only paying £2000 to get my MR2 converted to tubby!

I really dont know what to do. :(

Pity, if this had happened 2 weeks ago, there was a engine and g/box on eBay with low mileage (n/a)

Dunno what it went for but it wasn't much.

Good place to look
