T-cut

Found a scratch on the wing mirror of my car - :ffs:

Rich saw the postwoman catch it with her bag the other day, but thought it was ok - looked today and she has nicked it!

Its about 5mm long, not very deep or noticeable, but now I know its there I want it gone!

Heard T-Cut is good, but will it be noticeable - they do a dark blue colour, but how do I test the colour against the car without buying a huge bottle of the stuff?

Do they do little testers, like the ones you get for paint? I want to make sure it matches (I'm very specific you see!)

Unless any Carlo owners have used the dark blue T-Cut and can confirm its a match?

Cheers me dears!

(if only I knew which postie it was - I'd 'ave 'er!)

I have used T-cut on my Carlo Blue vitz, most of the smaller scrathes are no longer visible, but the ones that are a bit deeper (where it lokks like some ****** keyed it slightly) they do not come out very well. HTH!

:o wait they do different colour t-cuts?

OMG when I scratched my T3 on my Dads garage door I grabbed my Dads T-Cut (which was in a red bottle as he has a red car) and I used it on my Island Green T3...it removed all the little scratches and a fair bit of the big scratch too..never damaged the colour or anything though....

The T Cut in a red bottle is probably the same as the one I've got. It's for metallic paints. Ordinary T Cut is supposed to be too abrasive. Metallics have a clear coat over the coloured paint so you need to be careful with them.

There are colour waxes for different colour paints. I've just given away a bottle of the dark red Turtle Wax to a colleague at school as she has a Citroen C3 that is a similar shade to mine. It doesn't need to be an exact match, just in that colour range.

I have got some Turle Wax Colour Magic Plus (Thats the one with the little "Chipstick" ) in Dark Blue.

I intend to use it on my Carlo Blue T3 to treat an annoying "very fine" scratch that appeared on my door the other day.

CM plus was £8.99 from Halfrauds and looks like it should do the job

Yeah, that's the one but you have to be careful using the chipstick as it looks like you are applying lipstick to your car and you can get some very strange looks!

Thanks guys - one again you've saved this damsel in distress!

I'll try and polish it out first, see where I get and then try some of that McGuires stuff or something.... I'll see what our local Halfrauds stock!

I would seriously collar the woman who did it, but we have a different post-person everyday (agency staff apparently! :censor: )

Am still thinking I might write to the Royal Mail - try and get them to pay for the stuff to fix the scratch..... but I cant prove *who* did it.....

Cheers hun!

I would have asked for Maguires Scratch too - you've saved me an embarrassing "woman motorist" situation at Halfrauds! :D

Is that stuff for any colour paintwork?

sorry to butt in, but carplan (i think that is wot its called - if not, turtle wax) do a t-cut in a small tube that can be used on any colour. and its easily available. Its called scratch remover, maily white tube with red and a red cap.

little tip though..... if you can feel the scratch with your nail its too deep to remove. t-cut will only improve the appearence. and dont forget to polish the area after.

didn;t read all the posts in great detial, so i hope i've not repeated anyone.

Em darling... if you really want a good finish then wash her down, t-cut the wing, Scratch X it, and then polish...

Dave did that with his old Escort (now sold) which his family had owned from 6months old (and in that 6 months they reckon someone took it through a carwash a few times!).... the little scratches and swirls on it disappeared... and it looked amazing for a 10 year old car... almost shinier than Yaz! :o

ok - I now have a new problem!

I washed & waxed the car earlier (its looking niiice! lol) and I did what ferrariboy suggested and felt the scratch with my nail - it feels deeper than I originally thought! :ffs:

Will Meguiars still work on a deeper scratch? I'm really peed off now! Plus since I've washed it I've noticed another on the same wing mirror - its the same length as the other one, about a centimetre upwards - two identical deep scratches about 5mm long on the edge of the wing mirror..... :censor: :censor: :censor:

Scuse the dodgy camera work and me in my "I'm washing my car" clothes! :D Its hard to see, so I've circled the offending scratches - they are also surrounded by smaller lighter scratches - obviously been caught by something like a bag clip.....

Is it worth trying to sort it with Meguiars and if it doesnt work, then worry about it?

My Grandma, what big hands you've got! :P

Well it would surely be worth a try but if the scratches are too deep then it's looking like a trip to Mr T for a paint touch up pen (only it isn't a pen!).

edit: in fact it's a bottle of the colour paint and probably a bottle of clear lacquer to put over that. It certainly is for the metallics. I guess it may well be the same for the mica colours.

Right now i see the state of the scratches. Get yourself down to Mr T and buy some touch up paint ok. Put a small amount of paint onto the mirror and i mean a small amount just like a pin head amount and just rub it into the scratches using your fingers. Once covered leave for a minute and then polish off excess paint with some good polish. I've done this many time when someone has scuffed my door mirror and it works a treat

Hope that this help ;)

Cheers Jerry, Robie & Al!

I'll see how much Mr T will charge me for the privilege first! I'll ring them on Monday.....

lol @ my big hands - and look at my stumpy little legs too! I look like a hobbit with a large head!:lol:

Honestly I dont look like that in real life though..... I'm more of a hobbit with a normal sizeds head and hands!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

The paint isn't very expensive though I can't remember how much, sorry. Handy to have though for those little chips that sadly accumulate with age (the car's that is!).

Of course, you could always ask them how much it'd cost for them to respray the mirror for you. Go on, ask them. I could do with a laugh!

That is actually a brilliant idea!! Why didn't i think of trying that. All i do is dip a wooden tooth pick into the paint pot and hiding scratches that way.

Might try your way on my old flame gold yaris. Some a%se gave me two deep scratches on the rear passenger door. Better treat it soon before rust kicks in.

I know this might sound like a silly idea but halfrauds stock paint touch up pens including colour matches for the yaris. they are a tenth of the price of the ones from Mr. T and work a treat!- not so sure they have the carlo blue colour but its worth a check?
