Hi,

Wonder if you guys can help. Been asked for some help by a friend, but being a VW boy i'm not much help!!

He has a June '96 Carina E, and has lost his only set of keys, so not only can he not start the car, he can't even get in to it!!

The local dealer has quoted him £1300 +VAT +Labour, for a new set of keys, and a new ECU. There MUST be another way to get this car going again.

Any idea's???

Apologies for probably not posting in the right area.

Steve

Well a full new set of Carina locks with key is only about £60 from a breakers. The barrel would only cost a maximum of another £40. We've only got one set of keys for our GTi, so we've done alot of investigating into all this. The ECU shouldnt need to be replaced, only reset. Biggest problem is the fact of the newer carinas (believe its post 96 versions) had coded keys, which can make things a tad more awkward....

Speak to a few other garages, £1300+ seems to be a rip off, esp as you can get low milage GTi's cheaper than that!

Hope your mate gets it sorted
