High Mileage Yaris T-sport

I'm thinking about buying a 61k miles T-Sport as it's just under £6k from a toyota dealer and should come with 1yr warranty too. Oh and I think it has sat nav as well!

I'm hoping I might be able to negotiate down to £5.5k if I'm lucky...

Anyway, my question is: Should I be worried about buying a relatively high-mileage TS? Or would I be better stumping up the extra cash and getting a 20-30k mileage one for about £6.5-7k?

Cheers!

Well it's got a 1 year warranty...plus you know that the toyota engines are good, so doubt you'll encounter many problems. and if it's got sat nav then all the better

It was registered May 2001. Also has audio steering wheel mounted controls, don't know if they're standard or not..

Hmm, well the average mileage is between 10-12,000 a year for a car so that would be approx 20k above the average..if you get it checked out (HPI checks) or whatever and all is ok then it's worth considering, but personally I would rather stump up more cash for a lower mileage model as I don't really do all that much mileage and the engine would be less worn.

Have you test drove? does it seem to be in a good condition? any dents/scratches more than normal on the body?

I heard that usually if the mileage is motorway miles, then its alright, compared to in and out of town miles. Check with your dealer.

But it does have a 1 year warranty so if anything goes wrong you can always pop back to toyota.

Hope that helps

I've not test driven it, only seen it is available via their website today.

Don't think I'll need a HPI check done as it's from a Toyota dealer and according to their website:

"All Toyota Approved vehicles have been thoroughly investigated for outstanding financial commitments and any previous involvement in major accidents."

Do dealers negotiate much on used cars? Would getting another 1k knocked off the price be unrealistic?

I know that its not a toyota dealer, but take a look on autotrader,

theres a few within 30 miles of sheffield with much less miles on the clock and all under 6K

fancy a 2002, thunder grey one, 17K on the clock, 20miles from sheffield, for £5995, its private and its been on there for a while, u'd get another few hundred of that one ;)

theres some good blue ones on there 2.

all depends how much you want the year warranty and the dealer perks

It'd only be a 1yr warranty i think... :)

I have considered buying private, but it's my first car purchase ever and would be a bit worried about it.

I did think that if I bought private I could get something like a warrantydirect.co.uk 3rd party warrany, they're only about £200 a year. Plus if I got a HPi check and whatever I guess I couldn't go too wrong...

that is a valid point

its much safer to buy trade.

But if you've got one of ur parents who can do it with you, or know some1 who has bought privately before and you know what ur looking for.....well....then ur talking getting a lot more car for your money.

you just have to be careful.

It's not excessive mileage so test drive and ask all the questions you can of your dealer. Get the answers in writing if you wish. I doubt if there's the leeway to knock 1k off the price of the car but if you do manage it, let us all know how you did it!

Good luck.

Do dealers negotiate much on used cars? Would getting another 1k knocked off the price be unrealistic?

Simple answer, no they don't negetioate much and yes £1k is very unrealistic! As it's not as big a profit margin, they will be highly relunctant to sell cheaper, maximum of £200 off that price i'd say, and that's with some good skills!

But, the advantage of paying a bit more is a years warranty... which is always helpful. On the mileage point, 61k isn't that much... it's most likely motorway miles which are fine for a car, as long as it wasn't a city couriers car, then it'll be fine!

To a toyota dealer a t-sport is like gold-dust and will sell, :) they are having your pants down with the price, way too high mileage for that age and price! :o they wont knock much off the price either not when they can deffinately get some sucker to pay that price!

Yes I've noticed that dealers never have any on the forecourt - I was told its because when they get one p/x - it goes almost immediately as there is such a want for them!

Listen to Blaze - shes the gal in the know!

lol ta! :)

The longest we had a t-sport on our forecourt was 2weeks, and it went for a stupid amount of money!

dont rush into the one from the dealer!

a better one will come along!

they always do!

(wish i'd known that when we got ours! :( )

When I got mine from a Glasgow Toyota dealer last Jan, I had just got the keys in my hand for a test drive when another couple came in to drive it as well. Although the test drive went well and I liked the car enough to buy it I did feel a little pressure as the salesman was saying to me "there's not many of these about and if you don't buy this car these other folks will".

At first I thought it was standard salesman patter but sure enough the other couple watched my every move and practiclaly stood over me as I made my decision to buy. No regerets though - T Sport is a superb wee motor and black is the colour I wanted.

That price is too high. You can get 2001 models with half that mileage for the same price or cheaper if you look about.

I personally will be putting mine on the market for £6k or just less. Thunder Grey 2001 with 30k on the clock. Just to give you an idea :)

You are more than likely not going to need the warrenty. Toyota cars hardly ever go wrong (especially the ones built in Japan - like the TS). The only thing will be the alloys pitting. Just buy some aftermarket wheels if you are that worried.

Don't forget, buying privately doesn't have to be frightening. You can get the RAC to come and see that car and run a huge amount of checks on it (including a test drive - they check about 130 things on the car!). Along with a HPI check. You'll probably be safe. If the buyer says no you can't (or blags that he doesnt have the time then just walk away).

Good luck!

would you buy a pet dog that was dying?

Anyway...........

If it has a FSH from Toyota then I wouldn't foresee a problem, no timing belt to worry about.
