Scared

I've got 3 days now til my abseil for Cancer Research, and its just hitting me what Im going to be doing. Absolutely petrified, but cant back out now.

All the guys have work have raised £500 and the peeps on here have donated £250, so I cant let everyone down now

If you dont know what Im doing, READ HERE. 210ft abseil, and Im scared of heights. Quite worried about the fact its due to rain now on sunday and Im going to slide all the way down 16 floors :!Removed!:

Any wise words of advice from any other fellow abseilers? :group-cuddles:

SCARED?!! I thought you were gonna say there was a spider or something?!! Heights I can deal with, creatures smaller than my finger nail, I CAN'T!!!

You'll be fine, once it's over you'll wander what all the fuss was about!

Only done it a couple of times.

Once on a man-made wall, and the next ime was on a cliff over the sea.

Went on a school trip to Yenworthy, and there's a cliff down there enthusiasts use alot to do it.

It's been used so much, that the finger holes are literally groud into the rock by human hands! :D

Was good fun.

Keep your legs apart, and try not to put them together. That's the first mistake I did, and you end up doing running man across the wall-face.

:D :D :D

you will be fine ive done a couple of abseil's and its perfectly safe just when you get to the top try to get it over the edge as quick as possible, listen to what the instructors tell you, and try not to look down.

once you have done 210ft do a 16000ft skydive now thats fun

Abseiling is good fun Rach.... the worst bit is getting yourself into a horizontal position at the top... the rest is really easy... just relax and keep both hands on the rope :)

You never know sweetie... once you get down the bottom you might want another go! :)

The hardest part is getting over the edge at the top - from there its all plain sailing  (excuse the pun!)

Ive done a couple - back in the day and thats the bit i found the hardest - when youve got past that its great fun! you will defo want to go again! :D

The worst bit is the anticipation, its always far worse than actually doing the thing you're worried about, I hate injections even though I know full well its a half second sting & I feel far worse pain hundreds of times each week when I'm playing footy. Just try not to think about it too much (I know its easy for me to say it) & listen to what the instructors have to say.

Remember, you're perfectly safe & you've raised a hell of a lot of money for an extremely good cause and the whole of TOC is very proud of you :group-cuddles:

 you will be with experienced people chuck :group-cuddles: ...best thing to do is listen to them!!.

Climed/abseiled and caved since I was 10 so its easy!!!

Good luck and remeber what you are doing it for..and also try and enjoy it!!

Oh and ask them if you can do a "falling angel"..climbers stlye ..you go head first down and control the rope using youre legs and feet.....1st time I did it I papped myself, but since then done it loads and it rocks seeing the ground coming towards you

For god's sake don't close your eyes!

You'll wanna know where you'll be abseiling down, and where to put your feet!

:D

What time have you gotta start then, if your mates have deserted you because it's "too early?"

Ryan, PM me your new number as I know the one Ive got is wrong :(

And yeah my number still ends 626 :D

Well the actual time of my abseil is 9am, but I've got to be there before 8.30am to register and go through training. Leaving Bristol at about 7am so we can get there on time (as I dont know where this place is!)

I'm at a stage now where Im that nervous that I just want to get it all over and done with already! Ryan, dont forget your camera :P

Do you have a new one as well, Steve?

:P

Seriously, Rach, Just listen to and follow what the instructor's say (and don't look down). Have faith in the equipment you're using - those ropes and fixings/mountings will hold a car ;) (and don't look down)...

You'll have a blast
