Rav 4 D4d Engine

Hi... I am new to this sight and found out about it through a friend.

My wife has a RAV 4 VX 2002 model. 5 months after the warrenty ended the engine gave out on the motorway in very dangerous circumstances. I have not had any help from toyota that has been at all constructive. The car has been maintained correctly throughout the time we have owned it (From New). I am now expected to pay around £6000.00 to pay for a new engine !!! The car is only 3 years and 5 months old. This should not be happening.

Can anyboby help me and advise me what my options are.
