Carina E Front Anti Roll Bar

Hi all,

The front anti roll has completely broken in my Carina. It just completly sheared near the drivers side anti roll bar rubber bushing. On closer inspection it appears that it was fractured 3/4 of the way for a period of time, which I did not notice, nor were there any noises or unusual driving characteristics. I have almost 150,000 miles on the clock. I removed the broken anti roll bar without any difficulty but, what I am wondering is, do I have to take down the sub frame to fit a new one?

According to the Haynes workshop manual, the subframe has to be removed to take out and refit the anti roll bar, the fact that mine was broken probably made it much easier to remove but, I do not want to go taking down the subframe as I do not have either the time or the equipment.

I would like to hear any of your thoughts on this and also has anybody come across an anti roll bar shearing completely?

Also has anybody come across loud vibration from the catalytic converter at about 2,000 rpm, I think that the internal structure has come away from the body.
