Good on him, glad to hear he got a new engine.

Can you post a summary of how he went about getting it done and some hints and tips? Sounds like a few people would find it pretty useful.

Don't think it will be doing an awful lot to affect global warming though. Totally road transport accounts for 21% of Green house gas emissions (source: CAR - october). Seem to remember toyota having something like a 5% market share in europe and probably Avensis, Corolla and Yaris will make up the bulk of that. So lets assume 3% of that market share is Corolla and Avensis. Of that I've only heard of the problem being on ZZ engines. If we discount Diesels and the bigger non ZZ engines lets assume that's a maximum potential of 2% affected. However it doesn't sound like that many car's have been affected. Think there's currently 5 threads running on the topic and 1-2 cars affected per thread so that's 8 cars out of a total membership of 23411 people (or 0.034%)

So that is 0.034% affected out of a 2% maximum potential of a 21% total affect. Talk about Negligable! and that's before you factor in things like actually how much affect it could actually have due to the oil being burnt off at high temperature in the combustion chamber and catalytic convertor
