Cold Winter

I was just reading an article online from The Independent saying that the weather people are forecasting the coldest winter in a decade here in the UK owing to a phenomenon known as the North Atlantic Oscillation. This led to a brutally cold winter in 1963 when temperatures of -22C were reported and the Thames river froze over. This could cause all sorts of problems in industry etc.

I have my Toyota Carina booked in for a full service next week and I'll make sure all the anti-freeze levels etc are OK. Its probably wise to spend a few pounds now to save a lot more later on!

Yeah, I've been watching these weather forecasts too...

The past few winters have been incredibly mild, so we deserve a cold one really - although tbh I hope its not true - I hate icy roads and driving in snow!

The mechanic is going to spray a thick wax on the under body of the car which protects it against corrosion and rust especially when there is a lot of salt on the roads. For £20 I think its a wise investment. My car is left parked on a busy road, so I hope I don't walk out there one day and find some idiot has left a huge dent after skidding on ice. Since I got hit from behind by a 4x4 a few weeks back which wrote off my Clio, I have become a bit paranoid about the same thing happening again with the Carina and any ice will just make that a nightmare down here in Cornwall on country roads.

I hope we do get some snow, as I love it but I don't drive in it..unless it's barely settling. The weather has been doing funny things for ages now tho so who knows what'll happen

A white christmas would be lovely, but yeh I hate driving in snow! Weather has been bizarre this year though, I've been walking around wih no coat on and its November!! Only today has the weather really started to look like it should! So it wouldn't surprise me if we did have this really bad winter they are going on about.

Hmmm - I remember the winter a few years ago - total stand still - took me hours to get home because people panicked....

We are a nation of panickers!

I can remember riding around Milan on the super slippery cobble stoned streets with tram lines, first on a Vespa and then later on a Honda Sky when it was snowing hard. The calm natured Italian drivers added an extra dimension to the whole experience as they rushed to get home :help:

Lol Bizarra... :D

I remember that winter a couple of years back too Dem.

All of about 4 inches of snow max, and yet the usual 20min ride home (Still ony had my motorbike back then), turned into a blagged lift from a colleague, leaving at 4pm, and getting dropped off at the edge of my village at about 8pm that evening. 4 hours to do all of 10 miles!

Could've walked home quicker than that!

If it snows, I'm declaring myself snowed in. There's only 3 ways in and out of our village, and they're all up or down hills.

Before that even, I have to contest with my driveway.

We live on a hillside, so the drive is a 20yard long, 16% gradient drop, which is also a curve.

Great for sliding down on bin bags when it gets really thick with snow though... :D

If it snows badly, work have told us we can work from home - well thats what they said last year, so I assume the same goes!

I work in central heating so as soon as there's any cold weather the boilers go on & inevitably some have problems so if this is a cold winter it will be very busy for me. Last year was pretty warm by England's standards so it wasn't too bad but if the predictions are true I'll probably have my head up my :censor: all winter.

Snow yes please, bring it on! It's about the only time the trusty CTS can leave all you fast car drivers in the dust :D

Makes me remember that I did buy the right car after all

I've been hearing all this about the cold winter too, but the strange thing is that I haven't seen a snowflake yet this winter - pretty unusual for up here...

Snow tyres are my friends
