I've just heard that Reading Chronicle printed in a paper not long ago about my red supra and me getting caught speeding!

HOW DARE THEY PUBLICISE THIS!

Im furious right now and will be taking this to the top as its outragous that they print something like this. Its not as though i was arrested or killed anyone :censor:

Am i over reacting? Are they allowed to do this!?

No harm in Flaming them at all - You might get a retraction (apology in print)

I don't think that you are overreacting but I'm not sure that you'll have any redress if what they have said is factual.

I'd be furious myself though and I think checking it out with your solicitor as you are going to do is the best bet. You'll also need a copy of the article itself to see exactly what they printed as you say you have only heard about it.

Don't most local papers have a 'Court' section where they publish a selection of the week's cases?

Did your case go to Court, Leeky?

Indeed, and if its just in a 'court hearings' section then i'll let it go. If they made an article of it with all the details then i'll have someones nuts over this.

Good idea

Even if i dont have a leg to stand on and im completely wrong about this im still gonna try to get through to the little scrote who decided to write it and give him a load of abuse before slamming the phone down on him.

I know its lame but at least it will make me feel better

I'd imagine its just court hearings.... I doubt they'd do a full page spread on you Lee.... no offence, but like you say, its not like you were mowing down grannies left, right and centre....

That being said, the press can print pretty much whatever they like, so long as its factual - they dont need your consent.

:censor: Have they nothing better to do than make decent people look bad?. There is a courts section in our paper but its really small and near the classifieds.

Hope you sort it matey

Local paper has a court report in it.

Anything in court in the last week before it goes to press is added.

Gives a list of the scrotes who got done for things like driving without insurance, tax, driving drunk, mindless violence, etc.

Never seen one for speeding though....

Maybe it was a slow news day and they just wanted some filler for a column.

They don't think about how it affects people.

Unfortunately if an offence case goes to court, it will appear in the local paper under courts & hearings (towards the back). It's normally no more than a 1"x1" article (in about 6pt font) that states the particulars of the hearings - ie your name, address, the offence and the outcome.

There is nothing you can do about it as this information is in the public domain and has to be detailed. It will not be a full article about your particular charge and I very much doubt it's news worthy. *If* it is then you have every right to complain. You'll be able to obtain back issues from the paper's office. Find out the date this featured and order a copy.

If its false Charlie.... you can do something about it!

The best you can get is a formal printed apology :(

Unless you can prove it was detrimental to your lifestyle!!!!!

How could they have got the information? Presumably it must have come from the magistrates court?

It's fair enough/standard practise (but I don't recall seeing speeding ones before) to document your case in the courts section of the paper - but why on earth do they need to disclose your car details? They are are irrelevant and useless to everyone except to a car theif on the lookout for a particular car. I would raise that particular issue with them. I don't know how the data protection act affects things. I am amazed that the courts disclosed the car details to the press.
