Im about to fit a Sony 10 disc Multichanger via a Connects 2 interface to the original Head Unit w/cassete player + radio. Got no probs with that, but was wondering can you install an amp with this setup?

Equipment as follows

W18406 Toyota Radio/Cassete Head unit

Sony CDX-605 CD changer with Connects 2 Interface ATYS001 (in boot)

then with any amp i can get my hands on, :D

Im guessing uve got to connect the amp to Battery and somehow to HU but got no real idea how to do it. Any help guys would be appreciated.

Im sure someone cleverer will be along soon to explain this better but im sure someone said something about splicing the headunit cables and attaching an RCA cable from ther to run into the amp! im pretty sure thats the deal but as i said someone who knows more can properly fill you in! Basically im pretty sure it can be done!

If you have an amp with a high level imput you would be able to use the speaker output from the HU as an imput for the amp!

I had this in my old car and it was a mess to do and didnt sound very good atall!

Get an aftermarket HU and do this!

You wont regret it!

The only problem is, from what ive read on the forums. An aftermarket headunit basically makes the top display (with mpg, trip, clock etc) obselete.

Can you install an aftermarket HU and keep those functions?

now i'm not a yaris driver, but have fitted my own install in my rolla.

all you need to do is,

1) disconnect the Battery

2) run power cable from boot to battery( preferibly 0 gauge)

3) fit fuse box just before the Battery usually fitted on top of suspention.

4) remove head unit

5) run RCA cables from boot to dash( obviously inside were h/u goes)

6) run remote cable from amp to h/u and connect to p/cont

7) now connect RCA leads to RCA out-put on back of head unit

8) connect Speakers to amp

9) connect power cable to Battery

10) switch on head unit and set EQ as prefered

11) slide head unit back in place

NOW YOU SHOULD HAVE A BANGING STERIO!!!!!

hope this helps

I have an aftermarket headunit and my clock , mpg ,trip computer functions still work , best purchase for my car was the aftermarket head unit !

But in fairness you can install an amp. Purchase an RCA convertor , and install amp , the problem is that all Speakers must run independantly to the amplifier! Also the quality of standard yaris Speakers is dire! :( best advice I could give you is upgrade all Speakers if not done already , speaker upgrade is fairly straight forward as well , you can also get fairly good component speakers for a very good price

There is not one!Which is the problem!

He needs to use the speaker output from th HU as an input("High level input") for the amp!

yes the MPG meter and clock still work etc...

you either need an amp with high level inputs or an RCA converter :)

Yes, the only thing that won't work is where it used to say 'TAPE' or the radio station, instead it'll just show you the mpg figures etc in its place. It'll still show the time and temperature as normal!

So are the high level inputs just ordinary speaker cables??

Also, with the RCA converter will it stay same poor sound quality from standard HU?

thanks,

yup so just buy an aftermarket HU as the whole system will automatically improve :D Plus you will have an amp output (RCA) and other better features such as having a larger built in amp anyway so will improve sound before you even fit an amp so you may find you dont even need an amp for your use! :D DO IT!
