National Tyres & Autocare is running a promotion at the moment offering to change oil and filter for just £10! This is to end on 23rd December. So, if you don't fancy crawling under the car for the oil change in this weather, hurry!

http://www.national.co.uk/promotions/promotions.html

I'm sending my car in first thing in the morning for the £20 synthetic oil change.

Your choice, but I wouldn't entrust my engine to a tyre monkey, especially not for £10 ;)

Let's face it, most of them can't even balance wheels properly and that's what they're doing day in day out...

Thats a rather dangerous generalisation..................one of our members is a very skilled tyre fitter and often give us very good advice on these forums. (CFC 1)

Your attitude could easily cause offence

OK, I'll broaden it... ANY mechanic :D

Garages never drain oil properly anyway... ittakes a long time to let it ALL drain out properly! they just get "most" of it out, then over tighten the sump plug (reusing the same gasket) and if you are lucky, replace your oil filter with a cheap nasty pattern parts one!

Note use of words 'Tyre Monkey' Steve ;) as opposed to the qualified and skilled tyre fitter such as Davy :P

I do have to say... I dont hold much respect for those at Warrington Kwik Fit atm... who couldnt even find that one of my valves wasnt done up properly... and they are supposed to be tyre 'specialists' :P

I had the oil changed this morning. No, Karma Supra, the branch I went to (Ealing Broadway) was most certainly nothing like what you described!

The car was raised, oil was drained (steaming hot and black by the way! I strolled over, had a peep, and reminded the mechanic that I wanted full synthetic not the regular oil) till the dripping ceased and stopped completely for a while, and the filter was changed with one from Unipart (taken out from a clean, new box). The new oil was pumped out from a large drum (there were 3 or 4 close by). That was followed by what looked to me an inspection, poking and examination of the underside of the car. I watched all of that through a large glass fronted door in the customers' waiting room. The mechanic (Stuart, his name was -- say "hallo" to him when you see him!) was not aware I was watching as the service bay, the last of four, was at the other far end of the garage.

So, there you have it. A bill of £20 for a 20 min. job plus a courteous reception to boot. The garage was tidy too (well, tidy as a working garage could be). What I witnessed was *not* different in any way to what I would have done all of that myself (OK, it could have taken me a lot longer messing under the car!).

The good news is this sort of promotion, I was told, is regularly repeated all year round! Hooray!
