Which Fourby?

Father-in-law wants a fourby. To be honest, this is virgin territory for me. He's looking at Discos at the moment... What he's after is:

Good MPG (and he's looking at Discos!), good pull and space. Must be diesel.

He basically wants it to pull his tin-tent through waterlogged and muddy fields and stow his fishing stuff in. Personally, I think a big "proper" 4x4 is a bit more than he needs and a decent 4x4 Estate would suit him better.

I've heard good noises about Subaru... or is it Mitsubishi.

Cheers,

Jim

Dads got a Disco and its pretty economical actually.... but then he only does 1000 miles a year in it, if that!

The Subaru Forester is supposed to be quite good, as is the Nissan X-Trail but he couldnt go wrong with a Disco either really - Dads got the 2.5 litre diesel and its a right proper beast indeed... ;)

My dad had a X-trail fantastic motor,

depends how much money he wants to spend really.

The forester is good but i'd have the mitsi airtrek, problem is finding one

(not that many in the country )

As for the landrover i used to work there :shutit:

His best bet for mpg is to get a gas conversion, best way with a 4x4.

my brothers got a disco---------------------------------

you can hire him to do partys :P

I should have asked how much he wants to spend... and if he wants new or used... He'll be in bed now! :D Thanks for the suggestions. I'll do the research for him and give him a shortlist and a list of garages.

It took me long enough to pick the Avensis. Plus it's the in-law so god help me if I give the wrong advice! :o

I know... At least he wants it for a reason though. His Pooeygeuot got stuck this year on a fishing/campsite and he goes quite often. So the rest of us lucky people get to be stuck behind a caravan pulled by a 4x4. ;) Actually, he's not bad. He does pull over and he uses one of those stabiliser bars. He likes his gadgets! :)

 @ the LM002.

The X-Trail will probably suit him well. He's slowly being won over to Japanese manufacturers. Still, I'd like to see what Ravs are like too. They seems to have a better turning circle than the Nissan (on paper). At about 5m it's better than 10m when trying to maneuver around campsites. Just the towing weight and torque is less. Hmm. Not easy.

Cheers,

Jim
