Four days with hotels seem to be around £545 per person. Anybody seen cheaper?

Paul.

Well..... Mr Baz...

I went to Le Mans last year with Flat Pack (yeah I see you browsing this thread) hehe and it was great fun, we got the ferry over and drove down and camped (whats this i hear about hotels??? you pansies!! :P) lol...

we camped from wed through til end of race sunday, wed and thursday being practise nights (cool cars in the dark) and friday was open pit lane (a definate must, was great to see) sat and sunday obviously the races.

We stayed in Houx Annexe campsite not far to walk to Tetre Rouge.... and it was great.... the only thing I woulda said would be to have had more people there... the ones with the group camping arrangements were having even more of a party :P

On our particular campsite there were a few different large groups... the nearest to us have a motorised sofa!! and loads of mini motos n stuff... they were bombing it around the campsite wearing only a wig and an apron lol... and giving people lifts on the sofa ( i didnt get a go tho lol)

All in all a great experience... and I got sunburnt too as it was soooooo hot... 40-odd degrees or something down the pit lane... 37 in outlying villages :P

I'd love to go again... especially if it was a TOC group thing  oh yeahh!!

If you're going to go, then camp :) You'd probably struggle to find a hotel with space anyway. I first went in 1997 (I think...) and the campsite facilities have improved vastly even since then, Houx Annexe even had working, hot showers this year... shocking ;) Camp sites open on the Wednesday now I think and you can stay until Monday.

Costs are from £50 odd per car for camping, £50 each for your tickets (valid for the race + all the weeks practice / quali, used to be valid for pre-quali too but I'm not sure about that anymore) and whatever it takes to get over there, managed to book SpeedFerries Dover - Boulogne last year for £50 but that leaves a pretty long drive on the other side. Drive down and back is half the fun of it though, lot of VERY interesting cars ;)

Best done as a big group definitely, might have left it a bit late for this year though (the ferries and campsites get booked up REALLY fast these days).

Only problem was last year was a LOT busier (and hotter!) then I remember and I can only see this year being worse with the World Cup on at the same time (lots of people that wouldn't normally go did Euro 2000 + Le Mans that year). I'm thinking of doing the Classic instead this year.
