Welcome to the club, what is the meaning of those seat covers though?

LOL, previous owner put them on - they have now been removed :D

Took it to Mr T who diagnosed a bent rear engine mount.... pic here

If you need to change one DONT follow the HBOL* - it lies :) We did it by dropping the front subframe with the steering rack attached, then you just about have enough room to manoeuvre the mounting out.

It must have been hard work, especially in this weather!

So, was the through-bolt in the rear engine mounting bent or the supporting bracket twisted? The picture is a bit too dark to see clearly. Could you have recognized this anomaly had your attention been directed to it? Was it by inspection alone that Mr T identified this anomaly? If not, what testing procedure on the car did he do to arrive at the diagnosis?

You were not happy with the instructions in the Haynes Service Manual. On the Section on Engine/Transmission Mountings, 2A.27, it offers 3 methods of raising the engine/transmission slightly to remove its weight from the mountings: (1) Raise the engine by jacking up on the sump (via a wooden board); (2) Use a hoist or A-frame; or (3) Hoist the unit with an adjustable hook and chain attachment to an improvised support bar with end pieces which will engage in the water channel each side of the engine bay. You have added a 4th option: lowering the subframe. This worked, but what issue(s) did you have in adopting the ones in the Manual?

It was the front part of the bracket which has the rubber mounting built in....

Mr T spotted it by inspection alone :) I would'nt have spotted it as I didn't know what the mount was ment to look like!

Well, the haynes manual does say the above, but it says to remove the rear mount, jack the car up, unbolt it and remove... the lifting bits are if you're removing all three....
