had a chat with a guy a work about cool 4 seater convertibles of the late 80's, early 90's. we came up with this lot, i chose the audi, and he chose the celica, just wondering your views on this as we came up with a lot of reasons why we chose the car we did.

our top options are, they would be minters, money isnt an option, cool/cruising car is the view. if there is a car you prefer, you have to backup why it is cool.

mk1 vw golf 1.8

mk2 bmw 3 series 325i

mk1 audi a4 2.6

mk1/2 celica 2.0

BMW - not cool, with a M Badge, they are just lukewarm, never EVER cool.

Golf, bought by snobs who think its 'classless'

Audi - duller than a dull person walking through a dull town on a dull day.

interesting

for me

bmw = sleek and smart, newer ones are uncool

audi = smart, classy, presence

golf = not so keen on them but are retro cool

celica = doesnt stand out for me that much but is smart

mk1 audi a4 2.6

Audi never made a MK1 A4 Soft Top. They made an Audi 80 Soft Top and then the latest A4 MK2 Soft Top.

But yes the Audi was the best  Was looking to buy a 2.8E Soft Top back in 2001 but the first insurance quote i got they wanted £10k per year to insure me  So left that at that....

the a4 came out in 1995 N plate, the a4 convertible came out i think 1996 N plate, which would make it a mk1 surely

i agree it is mid 90's but its got a classic early 90's shape i think and it has to be in the running

eh?

you may as well include the latest A4 then - since its the same shape...

Nope, Audi kept the 80 shape all the way up to 2000 for the Soft Top.

I preffer the 80 to the A4, the A4 is too curvy and looks cheaper than the 80.

i stand corrected on the 80 then

its definately more modern the new one, it doesnt have an early 90's feel to it and it wasnt made in the mid 90's

They are all boring and bland to me!!!

The old "shark nose" SL was pretty cool

But lets face it... convertibles are !Removed!.

All of the above mentioned cars are womens cars.
