Free 1988 Celica Gt To Good Home.

I've recieved an Email from a Gen 4 Owner.

He has a Gen4 Celica GT free to a good home. new keeper to collect. It sounds to me as if it will run with some oil poured in the filler to lube the cams and a jump start with jump leads.

these are the details.

"1988 black celica GT 1998 cc manual.

There are a number of problems mechanically which I will attempt to describe.

Tax and MOT ran out last sept and it has stood ever since.

The heater core has committed suicide.

The drivers electric window no longer functions due to a garage mechanic trying to pull it closed manually (halfwit)

The starter motor occassionally just clicks instead of booting up.

The exhaust is blowing like a didgerydoo.

Theres a small dent in the nearside wing thanks to a brick throwing yob.

The rear wheel arches arent brilliant nor is the passenger bottom door.

On the plus side all the electrics seem ok apart from the drivers electric window.

I have enclosed a pic taken last summer but will take some more when the sun eventually shines its actually still sitting in the same place and as I say the first person who comes to collect it can take it free of charge.

Oh yes I'd better mention I am located in Leeds West Yorkshire"

In my experience - starter motor is common for its age, mine went too - I sent it away for reconditioning, think it was about £40 to have it removed, recon'd and refitted.

rear arhces and door rust is common. wire brush and a drill, bondo and paint. on black wouldnt look too bad if a DIY job was done. Electric window motor from TCB won't break the bank - an exhaust will be cheap too as will a heater core.

Perhaps a spring project for someone?

here's the pic

let me know if u want it and i'll pm his email address.

cheers

Dude me wants it. If there are no other takers I will give it a home. If I decide I can't restore it I will re-offer it later this year.

As has been said I also have a soft spot for the gen4 in black. Do you know where it currently lives?

The whole roof section above the front cab stowes away leaving a small rear sturdy hood which is collapsible and then hidden with the tonneau cover. Only european gen 4 convertibles are like this. The rest of the world got a true cabriolet with electric hood (which makes the rear small with all its folding mechanism.)

There arent many of these gen 4's left around, fantastic alternative to a 80's Escort or Golf as its a real 4 seater, big boot and a good strong 3SGE will still put 145bhp to the front wheels as mine did. 0-60 in around 8.5 seconds isnt bad for a barge without a roof :D

Just called my mate with a car trailer, apparently it is not operable. I am looking for something else now to see what I can get to get down there. Will keep you posted

Nice to hear from you, that Gen 4 is looking sweet.

My boss has a boxter which uses the same system for the hood

Just proves how polplear the Gen 4's are.

I have got arrangements tied up to get down there next Friday to pick up the car if

1) This is suitable,l I would not expect to be there before 7.30 pm

2) The car is still there given the interest level.

how you sort this mess out I dont know but hey no hard feelings whatever! I do recal you said first to get there.

If you do get there and collect the car before me sincerely all the very best with it

was under the impression under these circumstances it's only right to let the first reply have first refusal and so on etc..

but if it is first to collect then hmmmm,, but i do not want to step on anyone's toes,

so good luck to whoever gets it
