Bmw 3 Series

OK I know BMW's are the enemy etc, but are they really that bad??

My parents are getting a new BMW so they took their current one to the garage and they were offered 3k for it. They wanted more so walked away. Since walking away they have offered it to me for 3k as long as I don't just go and sell it to make money

I said no thanks (with it being a BMW) but have since been thinking twice!

It's a 3 Series 2.8 Coupe - according to parkers it should be worth 5.5k trade in if it was average miles, but it's higher (currently 135,000)

I guess I'm put off by the prospect of high repair bills etc.

Does it sound a good buy for 3k?

BMW's are well built, still have that "prestige" Badge.

They are RWD and setup well.

But ..

Personally I find them overpriced, bland, boring and are expensive for repairs, servicing and generally, for what they actually are.

Usually driven by people who don't know about cars but "have a BMW" thinking it makes them gods gift to driving and women, when in fact, they are usually neither.

I'd still have an M1, an M5 or an 8 series though.

M3 is the car you buy when you think you have made it.

M5 is the car you buy when you have.

I have to agree about the bland and boring - the car really does nothing to excite me from the looks department - although it does have a bit of go in it!

I don't think that particular car is overpriced at 3k - but I'm sure you are right about repair costs.

I also don't want the image that I don't know anything about cars

Just think of all that time I could save not having to use indicators

I've got to say I think it's a "No Thankyou" still. I'd be tempted though if I could just sell it on :D

To be honest I don't know what an e36 or an e46 is, but as the car is an S Reg 1999, according to Parkers it has to be the 92-99 one rather than the 99-04 one

So from a lucky guess that makes it an e36???
