Minor engine mods for the 2.4 diesel or any engine can include.

1. Exhaust Diameter Increase

2. Air Box Changes

3. Old(not too old, pref reconditioned) Supercharger of a 4AGE Levin BZG(getting harder but still very doable

1. 2.5 inch or greater size exhaust upgrade (over 3.5 inches is pointless, expensive, and very noisey) . It's a really really long way to the end of that exhaust in the hiace van. You'll gain alot more mid range to top end torque from getting more flow through the exhaust. Towing at 90km\h is a lot easier and stress free.

2. Get a high flow air filter, Toyota air-filters are generally good, apart from the fact that the airbox they sit in generally has a major flow problem (look at Soarers mod sites). A good airbox has presurised(even if only very slightly) stagnant air(ie not turbulent). So if you want better throttle response, then having air ready and available is a good start. A pod filter is not the obvious choice, the large air filters out of Soarers and the likes flow only a miniscule amout less air than most big brand aftermarket filters and have over 100% better percent protection against dust and other particles. And a pod filter in a dumb place can net worse performance than the factory original set up. So look at what you have before you just fit a pod. If you can increase the flow to an original airbox, then try this before spending what could be a waste of money.

3. The ultimate way to increse power torque and throttle respoonse is to fit one of these little beauts to your diesel. They help a great deal with fuel economy, as they increse torque right from the bottom of the rev range, which is where diesels excel anyway. Not like a turbo which only kicks in later. Sure both provide a boost, but value for money would have to go with the little super charger.

Anyway gotta go more later if you want.

Hope that helps.

Was just reading another forum which stated that adding 30 - 70ml of alcohol free acetone to a tank of diesel can improve power and torque in diesel engines.

The acetone is supposed to reduce the surface tension of the diesel making it easier to atomise and pump through the injectors. The flamability of it has nothing to do with it. It's what it does to the chemical structure of the diesel that improves the power output.

So yeah, just do a search on acetone to find the forum, sorry I'm new at this so don't really know how to do all the linky stuff. The forum was under other performance toyota's I think.

Oh well, hope this helps.
