Young Drivers Insurance

I personally wouldn't add dad, unless he's got driving qualifications to his name, as even though he may have been driving for years, and no claims to his name, he can still bump the price up.

i know this is a bit late as you put the post up a month ago but I am 21, ive been driving for 3 years and every year ive had my insurance from www.liverpoolvictoria.co.uk. until now i have been a named driver on my mums insurance and they are the cheapest ive found. I've just bought a corolla 1.3gl and my insurance is £700 with no no claims and an accident in my name in 2004. my mates 20 and just passed his test and hes just got insurance from them on a 306 1.4 meridean with all the extras including half leather. £1500 fully comp. my other mate whos 17 has just got his 1st car and hes gone with them. hes got a clio 1.2 dynamique y reg. £1400. he also got several quotes before buying the clio and found that the cheapest car to insure with them is a mk2 clio 1.9 diesel RT. he was quoted £1047 for his first year but decided he wanted something a bit newer so got the clio dynamique instead. He also got quoted £1500 for a toyota paseo 1.5 si from liverpoolvictoria. hope this helps.

Added my Mum and Dad as named drivers and it saved me £500

btw, that works with any of the Admiral Group; Admiral, Bell, Elephant.co.uk, Diamond

Just tried that with the insurance for my new motor  never even thought about putting my dad on my insurance :lol:

Works out cheap

My First year my dad was main driver and I was named driver (I was still learning so couldn't drive without him anyway!) - that was with CIS and cost £178 ish TPFT (1.1 Metro) - I was 17

My Second Year it was my dads policy, officially my dads car but I was listed as main driver on the policy - that was £300 TPFT with CIS (1.6 Ford Escort)

My third Year I got my own policy on a 306DTurbo at £800 F/C with Liverpool Victoria - (introductory discount etc)

When my renewall came through for the 306 it was £1400, I ended up going with Endsleigh that year then I have been with Directline ever since

Echo most of the comments on here.

I kept my Mum on my last car insurance as a named driver up until the time I got rid of it.......brought it down loads. I also found Elephant to be the best at that time (had a bad experience recently as they actually put up the premium rather than put it down and were £300 more expensive than their rival). But I really can recommend them for youngsters.

I actually could recommend the 10month NCB accelerator policies too. I've had my own insurance for 4 years, but now have 5 years NCB and Norwich Union accepted it with no questions from Elephant. It's been a real help - especially when I got the Celica TS last year.

I think facing facts though, unfortunately he's going to get stung with £1,000+ whatever he ends up with.

Good luck though

Yup - on a 10month jobby meself. Costs me less, and a the insurance companies I've asked so far, accept it as a 1yr NCB.

Doing quotes now (into the future), Admiral beats Elephant by about £30.

Did a quote with Liverpool, and it was about £250 more, although it is a 12 month policy.

Got my sis on my insurance, and she helps bring it down.
