Today, we said goodbye to our diesel Corolla...

And hello to a brand new beast!

Its not a Toyota though I'm afraid, its not even Japanese - its...... a FORD! But not just any old Ford.... he's gone and got himself a Focus ST-2!

And its nice - 2.5 litre 5 cylinder turbocharged engine, 225bhp, 0-60 in 6.5 seconds, in a lovely colour called Performance Blue (not the minging flagship orange Ford parade it about in!)

Its a bit dark out, so cant take any pics, but these are the ones from before it was registered, sitting at Ford...

Well I hope you're not unlucky with the reliability. All my friends who have had earlier models have had problems :crybaby:

Don't see what people have against Fords myself, they went through a phase of making some pretty rubbish cars for a while but the modern ones are capable and reliable cars that handle better than most of the competition.

Out of the current range of hot hatches the ST would be my choice anyway :) Given the choice though I probably wouldn't buy any of them and look for something older and more interesting ;)

fords are fine for 2 years - depreciation is shocking , is why i went toyota .

i have owned every ford except a sierra and of course the model t - thats daktaris era.

i can safely say they gave me no grief whatsoever , maybe its cos they were old motors and had been ironed out ?

my last was a L reg 1.8 lx td escort which was 2yr old , cost me and my missus best part of 7k all told - sold it 3 years later for a measly # 1k . as for realiabillity it ran for for 120 k before the turbo packed in passed every mot on little more than a few quid - so good luck em trade it in in 3 years time for a used celica gt4 plus 300 quid

I dont like to rain on peoples parades.... And this isn`t meant to be a pop at Fords in particular. Just an example. But what the hell is happening to so called performance cars nowadays. 11 years after Toyota released the ST205 (2 litres, 4 cylinders and blinding performance & handling) Reviewers are raving about a car thats got 25% more engine capacity. 25% more cylinders which equates to 10% less power, And generally poorer performance. and at 1437 KG its nearly identical in weight to the 205. And did i mention the Volvo engine, not that there`s anything wrong with a volvo engine, quite the opposite. But perhaps it suggests that Ford cant really design a decently reliable one of their own.????? Not exactly progress is it.

Anyway, enough griping. If Rich is happy with it thats fine. He paid for it and it`s his choice so good luck with it.

You're right but maybe because it's a better car! :P

I'd still rather have a CTR and I bet it won't break down as much as the Focus!

I am not expressing an opinion just stating some facts.

Em you can take confidence in the fact that the New Focus was voted Best In Class for Small Family Vehicles based on handling and value for money.

The New Focus ST currently holds the title Best In Class for Hot Hatchbacks followed by the Golf GTi and the Astra VXR.

The old Focus holds the title Best in Class for Small Family Vehicles (used) with the Civic in 3rd place.

I agree with the comments that you would expect more from an engine of that spec. The RS Focus which is a 2.0l Turbo is quicker and much better looking.

Nice colour though

Well, just went out for a drive - its a bit nippy!:lol:

Sounds great though, especially when you hear the little turbo whistle! ;)

I held on for dear life a few times!:lol:

And I know its a Ford, I never rated them either, especially the Focus which always seemed like they were allergic to car contraceptives, because you see so many of the old shape about.... but its so comfortable - the Recaro seats really mould to you and the only flaw we've found is that you get both the temperature and distance in imperial or metric - not a mix of both, so you either have to have fahrenheit and miles or celcius and km.... thats a bit annoying....

Can't wait til next week and I can drive it! :D
