When you do a HPI check how do the HPI people know that the car has been in an accident? Who reports the accident to them? I could do a search on google but I thought I may aswell ask here first!

I always thought they got it from the insurance company - although I suppose that idea goes out the window if the car was never insured or the accident not reported to the insurance...

Maybe garage records/dealer records?

They must get it from somewhere anyway.... lol

The stupid thing with insurance companies registering an accident with the HPI register is that they only do it if you are fully comp. If you are tpo then they don't repair your car so take no interest in it and it never gets recorded unless you choose to record it.

HPI recorded damage shouldn't really affect our purchasing much. Infact it means that you know it's been in an accident but has been repaired professionally.

If it is HPI clear - it still could have had damage and been bodged back together and never checked for structual integrity
