Isn't it only illegal to deface the image of our monarch?, we were told to write on wads of notes after they were counted by one of my previous employers to say how much was in the pile, but told not to write on the image of the queen!

Sounds like that film, Serendipity, where he writes his phone number on a dollar bill and goes and spends it at a newspaper kiosk, then she finds it again like 3 years later on a plane! haha!
