Faulty Cigar Lighter?

Had my car for 2 years now and never used the cigar lighter as it never had the lighter itself, however this week i plugged in a satnav to the socket only to get half way to cornwall and the Battery die as the cigar lighter was not charging . i have already ruled out the sat nav as it works fine in other vehicles so is ther a known problem for causing this? possible reason? or place to start looking?

sorry for the long rabble, but any ideas would be appreciated.......

What kind of power cord do you have? how does it fit snuggly? Try wiggling it about while it in plugged in. Quite often cheapo phone chargers dont work unless they are 'held' into the socket.

thanxs for the reply but the lead fits snug and it works in other cars. ive tested for current at the socket and there is none so where would be the next place to look?
