Brake (and Mr T) Issues

hey people, jus wondering if any of you have had problems with your brakes?

my car have worn through a set of brake pads and the disks are worn to 0.2 of a mm above the manufacturers recomendation for change. This has all been done in under 2 years with just over 15000 miles on the clock. There is something fishy going on as the car is only a 04plate 1.3 blue.

I tried talking to Mr T about it and they initaly said my brakes were fine, so i took it for another inspection at a local garage and they said they were just above the bare minimum. When i told toyota they said it was not covered under warrenty even tho there is something blatently going wrong somewhere.

Any ideas?

No, brakes arent covered under warranty because they are classed as "wear and tear" items....

Did you buy the car from new in 2004? How do you drive it? Not that I'm saying its your fault, but obviously if you are thrashing it and braking harshly, then that could be a valid reason ....

But in all honesty, I dont know jack about brakes, but I'd imagine a set of pads would last longer than 15000 miles!

yeah it was bourght new in 2004, i drive my car but not thrash it. But to go through the disks as well as the pads in 15000 miles cant be right can it.

If you don't thrash it around like a maniac then there is something going wrong somewhere! I'd take it to another smaller, independently run garage and possibly get another opinion?

I'd be happy and pleased to get 15,000 out of a set of pads! reckon you can kill a set off much faster than that ;)

Discs is another story though, especially if you dont drive like a nutjob and brake real hard.

Does it have genuine parts on at the moment?

Worth getting another opinion, but if they are low they are low.. nowt you can do about it but replace, its a consumable item. when you replace make sure you get genuine toyota parts - these wont offer the highest braking performance or whatnot, but they will be durable and of Toyota's quality - they should last a while :)

25,000 miles later, and my brakes are fine - discs AND pads!

That would have to be some excessive use to get them to wear out that quick!

Unfortunately, it'll fall under the "wear and tear" category, so you'd have a hard time persuading Mr T to part with the parts under warranty.

Can you balls... only if tracking your car or giving it serious abuse!

Iv just changed my pads at 40,000 miles and I do thrash my car.... BUT! I use engine braking a sh*te sight more than most people... brakes are only used when gunning the car around.... around town i use engine braking as much as possible and I only ever touch the brakes on the motorway when absolutley needed... throttle and brake drivers will wear their cars out much quicker.

My discs are perfectly fine, and should be for another 20k miles.

15,000 is ridiculous... you're either a very poor driver on the brakes 90% of the time, or your shoes are too big and are catching the brake pedal all the time, or you've got a fault. No car bar high-performance and track machines should wear discs out that quick, you'd struggle to wear pads that quick. I'd argue that one... that's crazy. Try WhatCar helpline if you get nowhere, they've helped my dad before with a warranty dispute.

well i haven't been under a yaris yet but most car brakes are the same and it could be a faulty load sencing valve (or wrongly set).

This could reduce the performance of the back brakes to nothing then you only have the front brakes working

which would wear out much quicker and get much hotter than the back ones...

You could give your car a good test run using your brakes allot and feel if the drums are getting hot on the back

if they are stone cold there is somthing wrong...

I have a 1.3 54 Plate Blue which has now done 10,600 Miles and has no problems at all with the brakes. It was serviced earlier on this month at Toyota where I requested a brake check and no issues were found at all with it so definately doesnt sound right about yours.

Perhaps try and contact Customer Services to discuss it maybe?

Take some measurements with calipers etc and photos and then ask your local Trading Standards to have a look ... I had this exact problem with a Mr T outlet in Bromsgrove.

IMHO it's a con ...
