Hi, if I relocate the mast, say like in the door pillar(might not be the correct name but its the front one) will it still work? or does it need to be poking out of the car? can I use a 75 Ohm TV aerial cable?

Yes, absolutely, the aerial needs to be free from surrounding, enclosing metal such as the 'A' pillar you are referring to. You can hide the short stub of holding bracket by inverting it on the underside of the roof opening (you still have the problem of water seal there to content with), but then you have to have an automatic retactable aerial to go with it for a completely invisible aerial (when it's not working!).
