Why Only Use Half Of The Brake Discs

hello all, my corolla only uses half the disks all round on the car, I hope this is part of the design as I was looking on the newer corolla's and they must have changed it. Its an 02 by the way. Thanks.

What do you mean by 'half the discs' , , do you mean the pads or the disc itself?

And how can you tell, your only using half a brake disc, it's not just a case of sticking your head out of the window and have a look

I think he means the pads seem to only wear down half the area of the visible disk! Maybe the wrong pads were installed at some point???

yep thats what i meant, visibly it looks ike that all round because the inner part of the discs are rusty off the rain

nope, the correct pads will be in there. its all to do with the fact that the handbrake is a drum system so that makes the disc larger. the rear brakes dont actualy do a great deal on most cors any way.

the rest is all down to clearance and engineering

i think the original poster actually means part of the pad area is rusty, this is usally caused by all manner of crap and gunge getting into the calipers and causing the pads to stick. cleaning the gunge off will sort the problem
