Gearchange Problems

Hi guys!

I wanted to ask a question regarding changing gears... Once in a while it so happens that Im switching gears and the shifter does not want to go in gear all the way, and I unfortunately have my foot on the clutch in such a way, that its basically a mis-shift and makes a cranking sound! You guys know what Im talking about... YES, I do know how to drive since I've been doing it for about 15 years already, but its still bothering and I get real frustrated when it happens, cause I know its not good for the car.

This happens quite rarely, and I would just like to know what problems can this cause to the transmission or basically anything? Does this really hurt the transmission or anyother part in anyway, this cranking mis-shifting sound? What happens when I hear this, this is what Im trying to get at, and what damage can it do?

Thanks!

on 2nd gear?

Yeah, usually 2nd or 3rd but today it was in 5th, it was a quick shift but it ended up poorly...

not sure then, if it was just 1 gear it could be the syncromesh ring for that gear, i had that problem with mine a few weeks ago, it was resolved by replacing the gearbox. it could be a problem with the dissengagement of the clutch

Just make sure your foot is rammed down on the clutch... I do it occasionally, but It's my error, not the cars... lazy clutch action on my part!

Nothing to worry about I don't think... the Yaris gearbox has a lovely notch to it, just takes a bit of getting used to to get them gears slotted in nicely.

Agree with Seveer here,

I used to crunch fourth a fair bit when I first got the car, as it felt a bit stiffer to get into sometimes and i'd bring the clutch up.. ooops.

nice short-throw clutch and notchy gearbox isn't it  lets you change proper fast

Ok, thanks a bunch! I will have to pay more attention to this, it does only happen to me occasionally as well, but its annoying!

Yes I agree, but I also feel this stiffness even now with almost 6,000 km. in the car, hope it will soften up a bit more...
