Didn't know you could just whack discs on the back... I was under the impression there was a fair bit of work involved in swapping from drums to discs?

Look smashing anyway!

I like it, brakes are something I'd be quite happy to spend money on so all credit to you, they look nice too, good work

What saving are you making on the insurance?

Ahh nice 1 shaz!! I've often wondered how easy it would be to do that, it was on my list of mods at one time!

Looks belting!

Apart from looking the biz, that a very sensible mod and at that price you stole it from them! :P

So, how does it feel?

You do realise that this is potentially very dangerous don't you?

As Earpl said, most of the braking is done by the front wheels. That's for 2 reasons. Firstly as you brake the weight of the car transfers forwards so its mainly over the front wheels, and the rears are relatively unloaded. So you can exert more force through the front brakes without locking the wheels. The second reason is so that the front wheels always lock up first as this is a safer situation than a rear wheel lockup (which is very nasty indeed, you'll spin before you even know what happened).

If you go upgrading the rear brakes without upgrading the fronts too, you're effectively moving that balance backwards. So you're increasing the chance of having the rears lockup before the fronts. I'll say this again as its important - REAR WHEEL LOCKUPS ARE VERY VERY BAD NEWS. If you're sure that your ABS is still woking properly this might not be too much of a problem, but I'm not sure it will be now you've done this swap.

Its also of no benefit on a single stop, your brakes are already powerful enough to trigger the ABS from motorway speeds so there is no way they can stop the car any faster no matter how big they are. The only reason for going to bigger brakes would be if you're getting brake fade after extened running on track, which you're probably not ;)

Sorry to sound so negative, but I really think this could have made your car dangerous.

dave, she hasnt upgraded the rear disks.. she has put ON rear disks from a tsport, they dont do much braking anyways so itll be fine ,she basically has the tsport set up on a 1.3

Changing from drums to disks isn't an upgrade?

If the fronts haven't been changed for T-Sport ones too (which was never mentioned if they have) then the car has rear T-Sport brakes and front 1.3 brakes.

As I understand it, the 1.3 has smaller front discs than the T-Sport. So for the same pedal effort you get less braking torque on the front wheels. Both the 1.3 and the T-Sport will be setup so the front wheels lock just before the rears under heavy braking with their standard brakes. So the 1.3 rear drums must also exert less braking torque on the rear wheels than the T-Sport discs for the same pedal effort.

Changing the rears without changing the fronts will mean that when you push the brake pedal the same amount, the rears are doing more work than before and the fronts aren't. You've moved the brake bias backwards and introduced the chance of locking a rear wheel.

Of course if the 1.3 and T-Sport front brakes are the same anyway, this isn't a problem. I don't think they are though.

Oh that is a good point son, dont know, I dont know that the brake pads are a different size.

In that case I am corrected.. sideways galore it seems :eek::eek:

lol not sure I'd go that far :) Only time it'd make a difference is if you're doing an emergency stop or something. Of course that's also the time when you need the most braking you can possibly get.
