Vvt-i Controller

Hi everyone,

i drive a 2002 yaris 1.3, lowered 40mm with 17" rims (ouch, yeah i know). Also with panel filter, HKS back box, cat removed and ecu remapped.

Near the end of the month i'm going to get a port polish done. Recently i've e been told for improved performance a better cam is needed and also a VVT-I controller. Now i've seen tonnes of VTEC controllers but i'm struggling to find a VVT-I one, can anyone help?

Thanx

Yeah thats the only vvt-i controller but no one seems to rate it as very good! I'm not sure what they say was wrong with it but i remember reading a thread over on the oz forums about it. Something to do with not giving you much room for alterations (tbh i think thats just a problem that the vvt-i isn't very tuneable rather than the camcon being bad!) But yeah have a read about it first and see what you think! Be glad to hear what you think about it.

Also i dont think you will get much gains from your "port polish" as they only really seem to give good gains on a highly tuned engine where the flow of gases is most important. If your running standard pipework (minus your backbox) i would consider uprating that aswell so you have less restrictions there.

Your talking about changing cams but i think you can't really alter the vvt-i system but instead replace with a normal cam system (well atleast i haven't heard of anyone uprating the cams that are used within the vvt-i system) Therefore your either looking for a complete new cam replacement system or getting a vvt-i controller and sticking with the cams it has.

Last thing, if you want it to be quick, loose the 17" for a 16" set so you can accelerate faster whilst keeping some style  Some people on here reccomend 15" as best but as you have plans for some modding im sure you can pull a set of 16" well.

Sorry for the long post but hope it helped! O and welcome to the club! :)

no i didnt get them specially made.

just a note for everyone, CAMS will work with vvt-i

but you will need a very capable piggy back ECU (greddy e-manage ultimate) or stand alone ecu

you can get cams for the 1.8L vvt-i engines and also the 1.8L vvtL-i engines

but no one makes any for the 1.5 because there is no market for them.

Piper cams will make custom cams, if you send them £750 per cam !!!!! (£1500)

then you will need a stand alone ECU to get the most out of them.
