hi dude yes it is possible as i have one.

you would be best to sell the 4WD box and get an MR2 turbo box as this will fit straight on and is set up for FWD. the shifter will need modding but this is about a 30 minute job.

what revision is your engine?

cheers

Yo thanks everybody for the feedback. Lee, i saw your car , i must say its nothing but inspiration. Im not sure of the specs of the engine, because i didnt buy it just yet. what i can tell you is its got a top mount intercooler, 4wd Box, ct26 turbo, with computer and harnest....Not a whole lot of info, but for the price im getting the engine, i didnt want to delay. I've done a conversion already which is a Mazda BP 1.8 into a KA Laser. Came off pretty well, so im looking foward to doing this and kicking that laser's rAsss... :D...

A few things I need to know, what problems if any did you encounter on your project, .. did you have to do any cutting of the chassis or firewall, move any mounts etc etc..?...Remember ill be doing this myself so i need all the advice and knowladge you know. if you have any pictures of the progress of your project that will be GREATLY apriciated.

Thanks alot, AG

Ok Well, i've done some research, and i must say its more work than i expected. Since i will be doing the conversion myself, im trying to keep things simple. ( I quote the following ) " The mount on the drivers side over the wheel arch had to be cut out and raised. The one on the passenger side wheel arch had to be cut out and moved foward."

Now, this is an obsticle, a large one for a "Do-It-Yourselfer" but it can be done.

Now heres the thing that really got me, the guy said the gearbox and exhuast pipes are sitting (50 MM) away from the road......Does anyone find this a little too close or is it just me?..and is this true? or is it just his car?. I know the BP conversion in the laser sits pretty low, and because of that the sump already hit a manhole and cracked open, not a fun experience. So thats one of my major set backs because i dont want that problem.

He also said if using the MR2 axles, one of them will have to be shortend, could i just use the Levin axles to avoid that cut?.

ORR, should i just say scrap that whole headache plan, and bolt in a 4AGZE? But theres not comparison between the two. Im looking for power.

Was thinking to get the 4AGZE, put on the 20V 4 throttlebody's ( If possible? ), TRD pullies, cam's, valve springs etc.?

or even the 20V silver top...what do you think will be the best outcome?. Keep in mind, im lookin for power, and mods in the future. I dont want to do this and regret it later.

  • 2 weeks later...

Do you know the engine number of the st205? I think its sw20-0087386. but i dont think ill be able to see the engine number when i go to buy it. What can i look for on the engine to tell if its the one your telling me about. What i know is, its got the CT26 turbo which ive read is the older version, and its got the 4WD box.

Let me know of some, if any..things to look for when buying the engine.

I'm no expert on this, but lots of people are at JAE (huge Japanese car show in the UK) so I'll have a stab anyway :)

50mm ground clearance doesn't sound like enough to me, I'm building a Lotus 7 style kit car (like this) and the minimum recommended is 75mm... Even then they can still ground on speed bumps sometimes and they have pretty stiff suspension ;)

I don't think you'll get the power you want from any 4AGE variant without throwing a lot of money at it. Nice engines (I've got a 20v Silvertop), but they cant compete with a 3SGTE on power.

The SW20 part of that number is the chassis code for the MR2. In fact the number looks like the start of an MR2 chassis number. No idea how to identify the different 3SGTE versions though, sorry.

Good luck though, you might get some more replies at the end of the weekend when people get back from JAE.
