hello, i was wondering if any one knew how to remove the black plastic strips from the bumpers and sides, and if they can be done without filling in the gaps or re-spraying in the area? thanks

they r just stuck on with double sided tape

u may want to warm the trim slightly with a hair dryer to soften up the adhesive

Yes, you could try using nylon fishing line or dental floss to pull through the adhesive and help lift the strips from the bodywork.

They are fitted as part of an option called the Toyota "protection pack". They're added later and yes, the car is painted underneath. Nice and slow on a job like this, don't rush and take care not to damage the paintwork whilst working on it.

cheers again guys, just working on it as we speak, managed to pull them off with my bare hands, just cleaning up the sticky remains now, sides were easy to clean, front and back are proving difficult, just about to use a bit of vinigar as ive heard that does the trick with removing sticky deposites

never tried vinegar, I know meths works great, then you'll probably have to either polish or t-cut over it aftrerwards.

vinegar is no good.

get some methalated spirits and give it a good rub over, this will get rid of the rest of the glue, once the glue has gone there will be a feint outline where the glue was, either use t-cut and rub over it or use some car polish or wax. You may need to do this a few times.

Try and use WD40. This should work! Use a soft cloth to remove the residual after applying WD40 and let it soak for a few minutes.

After I de-badged mine,

I de-glued it with some old skool Glue & Tar remover (scary stuff, it stank of petrol and was covered in warwning stickers :D but my goodness it didn't have do the job well  ) and then I gave it a wash, dried it.. then I used Meguaris Quik clay.

after this I half thought "no need to polish!" it looked really good, but I polished it really hard then and it looks bling now, hardly could tell badges were ever there.

I think future polishing sessions will make it perfect, as there is some tiny scratches left where the 'Yaris' Badge was.

I feel the best method for removing the crap after removing the badges strips etc is to sand down the car completely and respray it

I've used WD40 in the past and I've found it works rather well.

Also a product called Hyper Clean, made by comma I think it is. Great product!

Edit: Yes this is what I mean >>> http://www.commaoil.com/Product%20Pages/Va.../hyperclean.htm

The glue remover I used had a flashing point of 21 degrees C.

black cars get hot... i kept a bucket of water beside me and left the can in the shade

no casualties!

Loads of people I know use petrol for this type of thing and it gives top results but make sure you wash it down and give it a polish afterwards!

Get a toffee wheel from any good car place or maybe even B&Q put it in a drill its like a giant rubber that spins takes off tape in seconds and then u just polish it and it looks perfect!

I did mine the other week, I used a hair dryer and a credit card... then white spirit... then finally scratch remover and a bit of t cut... came out nice :)... you can see dirt marks on the front and back that won't come off... but they are unpainted... but will be soon when i get hold of some eclipse black and a compressor :)
