Changing Yaris Seats

Hi all, this is my first post here. I'm delighted there's a Yaris-loving community out there. I really like my very basic 1.0 2002 Yaris. Except for the seats. I want to change them but is it possible? Do I have to find seats that have been in a Yaris or is there a way of getting others to fit? Are there leather or bucket seats available for the Yaris? These might be stupid questions but I just have no idea about it! Please help if you've any knowledge in this area.

Thanks

AC

Welcome abroad matey boy! A lot of people with lower spec Yaris's tend to favour the seats from a T-sport. Not quite bucket seats but look much better than any others in the Yaris range, very sporty. They should just be a straight swap for your seats

any other yaris seats and they should be a straight swap, aftermarket ones will need custom subframes to fit the seats which can be a bit of a job.

I'm not sure if sparco make the subframes but i'm sure they don't fit properly.

I'm pretty certain TRD make subframes to go with their seats but will be very expensive.

How are the seats held in?

If its French-built and the bolts have a Torx star-shaped head with a slot through them then I'd suggest you get yourself a good set of screw extractors - the kind that screw into the top of the bolt anti-clockwise and eventually pull the offending sod out. If you need to buy a set than I may have a spare set soon. The bolts are impervious to anything but Torx wrenches - where they strip quicker than Paris Hilton.

Of course, if its japanese-built then 10 minutes with a 14mm ratchet will see you done

I'm currently trying to change my seats from standard ones to T-Sport ones....

For "non-Yaris" seats I believe that a cusom subframe may have to be fabricated.

Hope that helps

A

Thank you all so much for the quick replies to my query; they've been extremely helpful. I think I'll try get my hands on some Yaris Sport seats and get them fitted. How much might they cost? Changing the rails sounds extremely complicated. Again this might be a stupid question but does the Sport have a back seat as well or are they just front seats?

Thanks again,

AC

best option is trying members who have upgraded to bucket seats, to give you an indication i just sold my t sport front seats for £170, another option could be brokers yards

Yes, it does have a back seat. BUT (and its a very big but) if yours is French* then the rear seat mount is different from the Japanese one. I'm going to try and swap the seat foam and fabric from frame to frame over the weekend (touch wood) so I will hopefully be able to tell you the complexity. In the meantime I'm discovering that a 2-seat Yaris is very practical and my only drawback so far is the lack of a luggage cover...

Piccys, How to (hopefully) and assorted other info to follow - hopefully ;)

Alan

*I should have said, you can tell the nationality of you Yaris my looking at the VIN number either on the plate under the bonnet or on your V5 Registration Document. If your have a "J" at the start then all of this is easier than if you have a "V". "J" is for Japan, "V" is for France (possible "Valenciennes", the town where the factory is. Just realied that  )
