Nop it is like that otherwise you would not get the lever to release the bonnet with your fingers....

Hmmmm, think mines different to yours, the grille certainly is, allthough I cant remember the last time I

actually lifted the Bonnet

Re the 180, thought it was a tuned version of the standard 2.2 ?

Dave.

Would be nice to see a picture of a RAV 2.2 140 as comparison to the T180

Maybe my grill is custom along with my TOYOTA lettering across the spare wheel cover....It's defiantly not an import either as I know the garage that supplied it to the original owner...

To be honest I'm way out of touch with the oily bits now. Used to do all my own work on cars till we went through a period

at work of having to do 6 or 7 days a week. Never quite got back into it :crybaby: So maybe we could get an informed

description of the 140 and 180, Anchorman, where are you ?

cheers,

Dave.

Is the T180 a straight Turbo then....

Most modern diesels in cars are intercooled. Early TDI's often had the intercooler on the block near the turbo, hence the scoop to push cold air through it; my Citroen BX TD had one there but there was a channel built into the underside of the bonnet to divert some of the air coming through the grill through it. It's now common to have the intercooler in front - longer piping to/from the turbo, so some pressure loss, but it's at the right place to get the maximum cooling through the grill. Also, putting it in front of the radiator shields the latter from debris (stone) damage - probably better to have a hole through the intercooler than the wet radiator.

I've not had my XT4 apart and all the plumbing and other gubbins (sorry to be so technical) makes it hard to see exactly where it is, but the turbo outlet piping seems to run to the front.

Arrrr Thanks Steve   cleared that up then...

Still think it looks better with a bonnet scoop....Some owners over on RAV4World have false ones fitted for show....

It is sandwiched between the air con condenser (front) and the radiator. All 3 are a similar width and height.

Thanks for the confirmation, Anchorman. I needed to be somewhere in that block of coolers but not easy to see. When I buy a new car I let the garage take care of maintenance - I don't have a garage nowadays (and gave away all my tools to somebody who would still make good use of them a few years ago). Reckon I have better things to do with what free time I have than spend it surrounded by bits of my car. Besides, even my father, who was a vehicle mechanic all his life and could still fix almost anything on a car, say, 30 years old, doesn't touch his car nowadays - too much relies on electronics and too many specialised tools needed - just not worth the hassle.

Steve

I agree with you, I don't like playing with motors these days either.

The only problem is that the service on these cars is very simple; interim service (10k or 12 months) is oil and filter change and major service (every other 10k) is oill, filter and a complete transmission oil change. In both cases all they do is inspect. All other items like cabin filters, brake fluid etc come at various stages and they charge you extra.

When it comes to electronics you have to get them involved like Peter of Preston and his saga but they often guess and struggle. The bottom line is that I can come out of retirement and change my oil at leasure and make sure all the little clips and bits and bobs go back correctly instead of having a semi skilled youth knock it around for big bucks and that is my inspiration.

I do however have a great interest on how this new RAV works so I read all of the information from the publications website.

I would like to post some photos but am no so red hot at getting them on so would somebody mind explaining very slowly and clearly how to do it?

Regards

anchorman, see chatman's post #48 in this thread. He has explained how to post photos onto the forum.

Basically, upload your pictures to somewhere like www.photobucket.com, and then copy the link back here.

Anchorman,

I would add, at first I found it very frustrating untill I went on to photobucket and it all became clear. Basically all you need

to do is save your photos to your desktop, go onto photobucket and follow on screen instructions to upload photos. Back on

here, when in the reply page creating your message copy/paste the photobucket image URL at the little icon above. Its the

one between the two crosses.

Dave.

There we go! Thanks chaps.

This is the comparison photo of the bog standard engine (still far superior to any LR engine). It is basically the same as a T180 but the T180 has a lower compression ratio (I'm sure the block and pistons will be the same so this must be achieved with a different head). It also has a 4 way cat (not where the D-CAT comes from that is Toyotees for Diesel - Clean Air Technology) They also have piezoelectric injectors that atomise the fuel better at a pressure of 1800 bar (26000 psi!). Different ECU and turbo settings and that is pretty well it, the makings of a flying machine.

Protector.jpg

This is a rear bumper protector I picked up while in the USA for $70 (about £40). I'm hoping it will cut out those annoying scuff marks that are so easy to get.

I will add some photos of the whole car soon but not until I've polished it so much that it appears transparent.

Cheers

Clare,

Are there any Toyota dealers on IOM ? The reason I am asking, next month I am taking the car to Jersey via the Poole

fast ferry (wife is a bad flyer so this is 14th holiday in Jersey, a long haul for me).I bought some stuff last year for the

Rav from Toyota dealer on Jersey and because of the tax differences I reckon I saved between 25 and 30% on mainland

prices. You do off course have to stay within your limits for bringing stuff back  But hey still a good saving.

I allways thought that anybody on the south coast who can spot the special offers for the ferry could make a good

weekend of it and catch some bargains while there, lucky gits. But hey the IOM is closer for me so who knows.

Cheers,

Dave.

Good looking 3door 4.2 freestyle!!!

Clare

It does look good I must admit. I always like the proportion of those 3 doors - together with the colour and the kit it looks spot on

I wonder if we will see any variants of the 4.3? 3 door, soft top?? Hank the yank has a LWB?

We'll see.

The grey frame is the TTE bumper insert.

Glad people like it
