40k Mile Gearbox Failure

Afternoon all.

The gearbox on my sister’s 4-year old 40k mile Corolla has just packed up.

The local Toyota dealer says they feel very sorry for her but want £2k to fit a new one, which is a lot of money for my sis.

Any suggestions as to what she could try?
