Exhaust Reccommendations For 02 Celica

Over the last few months, an odd 'note' has developed in the sound of the exhaust on my 2002 Celica. The vehicle has also lost a lot of power, which I presume is associated with this change. The garage can't find anything wrong with the exhaust, ie, no holes of gaps, but agree something has changed.

Am ready to bite the bullet and am thinking of a stainless steel exhaust, but since I'm not at all mechanically minded I'd welcome any comments, suggestiosn amd prices from memebrs of the forum.

Cheers,

Bluey

Firstly, take it wasy with the bump's, eh? There aren't many G7 Celica owners on here, and I doubt any of use were on here between 9 and 11 this morning!

And exhausts... The Blitz Nur-Spec is a very popular exhaust on the G7, although quite pricey. Mongoose do one for a lot less, but I can't vouch on quality. You might also want to try a company called Blue-Flame (Blue-Flame ebay shop). They haven't got anything in the e-bay shop at the minute, but they certainly did do G7 exhausts, so might be worth getting in touch with. Then there's the TRD from Japan (import only), which in mosts test comes out on top for performance but it its a back-box only, and it isn't stainless, and the TTE from any Toyota dealer which is also quite highly rated, but the twin centre exit isn't to everyone's tastes...

Good luck with the hunt, try googling for places to buy, and if you don't get anywher let us know, as someone may have some good local contacts.

Thanks for the advice on Blue-Flame, who are going to fit the new exhaust. Too good a price, even with the 7hr return journey! The guys were asking if the vehicle - a VVTL-i 190 - has a 'cat back' system. Can anyone tell me what this is before I give them the final go-ahead?

They are basically asking if you still have your catalytic converter (here on in: cat), which I think you probably do if you've still got the stock pipes. And from there, they will be supplying an exhaust from 'cat' back to the tail pipe.

The Celica had its last service from a Toyota dealer, who flagged up a 'vibration in the manifold shield'. Not long after that, I noticed the change in the exhaust note, and the extreme loss of power. My regular non-dealer mechanic cannot find a fault/hole in the exhaust itself, but agrees on the lack of performance.

The Blue-Flame guys have been helpful so far, and I have seen some neg comments on other sites, but I am gonna give them a chance and will post back after 20 Dec.

Best wishes, anyway, if you don't follow this up.

Hold on: I know nothing about mechanics, but I've just re-read my last post. I am assuming Toyota were referring to the exhaust manifold?

The Blueflame cat-back seems to have helped a wee bit, but I am still under the impression that there's some power lacking. My regular guy says he can't find anything wrong, but what would this 'vibration' be that Toyota noticed in the manifold shield?
