I cant get my laptop to show websites just now .

Cannot find server or DNS error :( anyone help?

WIndows XP and explorer 5 i believe , it connects to the internet but wont show any sites .

Its a wireless conection from my dads AOL broadband pc .

Sounds like your DNS isn't working properly. Try putting the following URL into your browser:

http://66.249.93.104/

That should bring google up. If that works then your internet connection is working fine but your DNS isn't. DNS is basically the bit that translates between a domain name and the IP address for a website.

If you do get google coming up then you need to sort your DNS out. If google doesn't appear then it looks more like the connection isn't working properly.

To sort your DNS out you've got a few options.

1. Phone AOL and ask for their DNS server which will be an IP address which you can put directly into the TCP/IP settings page of your wireless network connections properties page.

2. Try putting the IP of your router into the DNS page (or your dad's PC's IP address if you are using connection sharing)

3. Search on google for a DNS server for AOL or a generic free one

4. Try this one 205.188.146.145

same happening for that mate :(

i dont have aol on my laptop , its pretty crap - just use explorer .

My mums acer laptop wont get anything either , same response .

Strange as it still says i'm connected to AOL broadband - signal strength excellent .

any other ideas PLEASE :D

signal strength is just the connection between your comp and the wireless router
