This topic interests me greatly,

I personally feel that religion is a very dated thing. Imagine over 1000 years ago when there was little science and no 'idols' to follow, religion would be the option, the vice to drive society. True Christians dont believe in evolution and that they believe that GOD created everything how it is now.

Alot of people say that you cant believe in heaven if you dont believe in GOD, some say that people are uncomfortable with the idea of death and nothing happens after, they 'believe' just to so they know that they are going to another place.

I believe that things might happen for a reason. Fate. I cant say that there is a higher being that controls it, could there be a plan for life?

I'm not on the fence with this one, I don't believe there is a god, I opt for the scientific angle but I have the upmost respect for someone with strong beliefs.

So many questions, very little answers!

I studied philosophy of religion for A Level and it was a very interesting course although all of the arguments for the existence of god all have their flaws.

Personally I'm Agnostic, I believe in nothing basically...

Think we'll have to be a bit careful in this thread though as although everybody has a right to believe whatever they wish to believe in, I've seen religous based discussions turn very sour very quickly :)

I don't beleive in god/jesus/noah and his ark ..... lol

I could say alot of stuff here as my views on it are quite strong, but religious types would get upset very quickly. So my mouth will stay quiet. :D

So my answer is ... "no".

We are walking on eggshells here, so i will keep it simple...

If you believe in god, then god exists... but your god could be different from another persons god. Everyone has there own beliefs, reguardless of colour, creed, race or religion, if an individual believs that a god exists then god does exist.

May YOUR god go with you.

Ask a group of children - "Do you believe in fairies, if you do, clap your hands"

Some will clap, some won't. It all depends what you believe in....

Belief is a very important part of human existance. We all believe in things, whether its believing in yourself or believing in God or believing in Rice Krispie Squares - beliefs are important, not just to those of a religious background.

Me, personally, I believe in many things other people dont - I believe in reincarnation and that when you die, your soul carries on living and one day, it finds a new body and the person you are carries on in some way... now people might think I'm a total loon for my belief, but its what I'm entitled to as a human being.

I don't believe in a God of any description, but I respect those that do. No matter which God (as there are a few to choose from!), if your beliefs are strong enough to say that you believe, then who is anyone to turn round and say that you are wrong.

Oh and I do believe in fairies  :D

I see this one causing arguements

me - i believe there is a greater cause in life - but a Omnipotent being that created the universe??? pah.

I also respect those who have their own beliefs but when those believes are an excuse to start wars etc then thats another reason that pushes me further away from religion.

i believe in the car god

Like Ryan I think this post has the potential to possibly offend someone then escalate into something that can cause friction.

While freedom of speech is VERY important and as long as nothing offensive or insulting is posted the thread will remain.

My own answer is, I don’t really know ;)

If you had asked me only back a year or so ago, I would have said I personally dont believe in a God

But I had this very discussion with one of my close friends not so long ago when my health started to get worse (shes born again chrisitian). Some of the things she said to me actually really touched me, and finally made sense at long last.

I think the best way to describe what I am is I'm just over the fence, but not stood with all the people who go to church etc.

I believe there is more to life than what is on earth, and there will be that white light at the end with all my friends and family waiting for me.

Without some hope and belief, I dont see why I like many others keep going every day in pain......

I dont believe in god

and i think people go overboard when they start talking about offending people

Somebody somewhere is ALWAYS going to be offended by something - people get touchy about religion for some reason

One Prime example - in the news a couple of months ago a muslim police officer refused to stand guard against the Israeli embassy because he had family in Lebanon, and the media went crazy about it - it had absolutely nothing to do with the fact that he was muslim - i mean would you stand guard over somebody who was bombing your family? No.

But the world insisted on making it a religious debate when it wasnt - the exact same words came from another muslims mouth - so they must be totally fed up with it!

So people, why the need to start saying things like 'this is going to cause trouble'

No it wont - do i get offended when people start talking about god - no not in the slightest - so why should people be offended if i say i dont believe in god? It works both ways

What i do get offended by is people being so uptight about religion - society has been moulded so thats its almost taboo to talk about religion - its really annoying tbh

There must be a god; how else do you explain the creation of the Auris?

Paul.

if you belive that dinosaurs walked the planet a few hundred milion years ago, which seems to be proved what with bones and fossils. then that 1 fact tells you all you need to know about god making things with adam and eve. there is so many other facts which do prove this but some people just need to belive in something

I class myself as an Atheist, and take relish in arguing (*DISCUSSING*) with other friends who are believers and pointing out all the flaws in the whole Jack-a-nory story.

Personally I don't mind what anyone's religious beliefs are as long as they don't push them on me, because I certainly don't go out of my way to say 'Hey everyone, look at me, I'm an Atheist!'

I agree with Jamesb4uk, it seems to be the biggest factor for wars and 'hate-crimes'.

I anyone is in doubt, watch Ricky Gervais DVD Animals. He's the funniest comedian I've seen in a long while that approaches this subject in such a truthful, humerous way. :D

The police officer story wasn’t in fact about religion but about a public servant appointed to uphold the laws of this land in a neutral and democratic way, making a choice, be it on religious or personal grounds that he wouldn’t carry out the tasks assigned to him.

The repercussions of this action were highlighted because of the possibility that other officers could carry out similar refusals to work for any number of reasons which in effect could create a segregated (not necessarily on religious grounds) force.

Is there a god, or are there many gods ?

I don't know, but what is important is that anyone who wants to believe in 'their' god has the right to do so, without being condemened by any other person who wants to believe in their own god.

I can-not accept that there is a god, but hopefully I live me life in the hope that I do not interfere with others who want to believe otherwise, as long as they do not interfere in mine.

I believe that religion was 'invented' to control the masses !

Im sitting on the fence with this one.....

When I was a kid I was very into God praying every spare minute I had, when to Sunday school I even did that dancing and singing thing.

I was a young child, I thought it was the thing to do, and for a while it made me happy, I felt I belonged.

Now days Im more for the scientific point of view of how the earth was created , the big bang and all that.

I dont pray anymore and there is no more singing or dancing for me. Unless I am drunk. ;)

No one will ever come up with the answer to the Is there a god question.

So why did the papers start with the headline 'muslim police officer refuses to stand guard''

If it wasnt made into a religious arguement they would have just said 'police officer refuses to stand guard'

I even sat and watched the news where they got a 'muslim representative' and asked him questions such as 'Do you think this will cause a bigger divide between muslims and non-muslims?' so dont tell me it wasnt made into a religious debate - because it was. The media love to do it for some reason

Adam & Eve are standing in front of the great creator. He said: 'I have two things which will deside & define your s*x, you have to choose which you want. The first is brilliant, you can point it where you want, write your name in the snow, it's great'

' Me me me' says Adam. ' I want that one!'

So God gave Adam a p*nis.

So Eve, a little dissapointed she didn't get there first says: ' So what is the other thing that desides & defines my s*x, What do I get?'

The great creator looked at her & said...

.....'a brain'

TRUE STORY!!!!

Coming from a pure Atheist and someone who knows the truth ;)

There is NO god, there is NO afterlife, there is NO heaven or hell, and so on

There is NO supreme being of any state governing what has happened, what is happening in what is going to happen, when you die, that is it, you dont go anywhere, you simply cease to exist.

No one created the earth or anything on it.... that was a scientific phenomena.... and the creation is called evolution through selective genetics and survival of the fittest, you could say i believe in the religion of Science Fact ;)

The likes of the Bible are so full of contradictive crap that has got less truth than a ladybird kids book....

example (i dont know the EXACT text) but there is a passage in there stating basically, that rich men are never to enter the likes of heaven.... id like to know what loophole the pope has created for that one ;)

and dont get me started on Martyr's ;)

Religion is a form of brainwashing, and as stated in a documentry not so long back on the telly...

'Good people dont do bad things, but religion makes people do bad things'
