Sub-zero Temperature And Strange Noise

Hi there,

I wonder if anyone else noticed their car got noisier this morning the temperature was around 0 Deg C. The noise is not the normal tap...tap.. but rather like the car idling at a very low rev. When I applied a bit of gas to increase the rev slightly, the noise went away.

I wonder anyone else suffer this problem on their Diesel. This was the first time I noticed this and certainly this was the coldest temperature I recorded since I own the car.

It's all normal ..... don't worry about it ;)

Mine sounds like it going to fall apart until it warms up ......

*Waits for the diesel abuse to start pouring in

When the engine is very cold, tolerances expand. When oil is very cold, it flows less easily. So if one tappet has a slightly wider than normal clearnace it will "tap". Revving the engine increases oil flows: hence quiet.

That's my explanation but wdik.
