Email Help

Okay, it's probably a very simple thing to do but last time I moved my email addresses from one computer to another, it was on a mac. Nowadays I'm using PCs.

Could someone please tell me how to move my email address book from this Windows XP laptop to my new one?

Oh and if there's an easy way to do the same for my bookmarks in Firefox, I'd appreciate that too.

Thanks in advance.

You just need to export your address book from your old laptop, save it on a memory stick and import it on the new one - thats how I did mine (from Outlook 2003 to Outlook 2003) but it will work using Outlook Express and other versions of Outlook as well - what are you using?

As for Firefox you can either copy the contents of the Firefox folder (usually at c:\documents and settings\username\application data\mozilla\firefox) and paste it into the folder on the new pc or there are programmes you can download which will do it for you, Mozbackup springs to mind. That takes all your Firefox settings (bookmarks, saved passwords etc) over.

Ah, I tried that before but couldn't find the file!

Just looked in programs/Outlook Express and found the windows address book (wab). Is that it?

So I just take it over on my pen drive, and import?

I've got both OE and Outlook so not decided which to use yet. Recommendations?

Thanks for the other help too re bookmarks.

You may now be called Peridot but....

you're still an angel

Thanks Em.

If its OE on the old pc then yes, its the .wab you need.... I've found a link that gives you better instructions - this is to export over to Outlook, personally I find Outlook a lot better than Outlook Express, so if you've got it to use, then use it ;)

How to....

All you need to do is find the exported .wab file on your old pc, copy it on your stick then stick the stick into the new pc, and follow the instructions to import to Outlook.

Thats a lot of sticking sticks, but you know what I mean....

And I'm sure the angel bit could be disputed, but thanks mate! :D

Well it took me a while to get around to doing it but it was a piece of cake to do and fast!

Email now up and running on my new computer. I even managed to import my two email accounts too!

Thanks again for your help.
