Alloy And Tyre Sizes

Hi guys n gals, I've been considering the jump up to 18" wheels and I'm now trying to decide between 2 different alloys as well as tyre sizes as well.

first up, we have the classic Oz SuperTs and as far as I know they are available in 7" widths

The second wheel is a Team Dynamics Monza available in 7.5" width

so my first question of three is can the rolla T-Sport (mine is pre facelift if that matters) safely take a 18"x 7.5" wide wheel without any issues?

2nd up is what size tyre would you recommend as I'd ideally like Toyo Proxes T1-R and for the Monza the 225/35/18 tyres look a close match to the current size (works out at -1% difference) and for the SuperTs a 215/40/18 puts the new size 1.34% over (apparently)

the final question is, bearing in mind the SuperTs will work out at about £350 more expensive - which ones do you prefer for a T-Sport?

EDIT: I forgot to mention, I've also fitted some Eibach Pro springs for a ~30mm drop aswell

They are both nice mate but 18's are a bit big, I am going to put 17" kahn RSV alloys on mine and the tyres cost a bomb alone.

Dreading to think paying out for another tyre if you get a puncture that is unrepairable!

7.5J wheels should fit if you get the offset correct.. i'm not to sure what the best option would be.. at a guess i would say et40....tyre size would be 215/35x18.

From a choice of those 2 wheels.. I would take the OZ's

both wheels look very good infact.... however i wouldn't really suggest 18"s.

i have just fitted 17"s on with 45profile tyres and that already made the ride much stiffer! i must admit that here in malta the roads are not the best you'll see but even on a road which i considered 'smooth' when i had 15"s isn't so smooth now. that is mainly due to the less rubber on the wheels, because regarding weight, my 17"s are in fact lighter that the 15"s i had.

moreover, a few days ago, someone here mentioned that with the weight of 18"s he broke his differential. maybe he'll tell you better.

thus in my opinion, don't go any larger than 17"s and prefebly take the 205/45 tyre option not the 215/40, since both are recommended for the rolla.... hope that helps mate.

OK I'm not feeling a lot of love for the 18" option :crybaby: Have no other CTS owners made the jump to 18s - apart from the one a few months back riding on 19" wheels I can't remember anyone mentioning upgrading past 17"

On the plus side, dropping my gaze down to 17" alloys means a few hundred quid stays in my pocket :yahoo:

If you want attention OZ 18's would be lovely...to look at, I've not had any experience of driving a car on 18's so can't comment on that.

But sensible head decision would be Monza 17's for similar impact & loadsa money spare for other mods.

only down side of the choice of wheels is time taken to clean them, but that's what jet washes are for though

Plus if you have no problems with 18's I might start saving some cash.

Good luck in making your decision

Richard K
