Trd Yaris Turbo?

Hi, first post here. I'm looking at options for a new car (this year at some point), the yaris is a bit small compared to what I've been looking at but I came across this article:

http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/autoexpr...yota_yaris.html

I'm not so keen on the Yaris SR but this looks like more fun. My younger brother drives a Glanza that is impressively quick for its size and I expect the Yaris mentioned above wouldn't be too far removed.

I've done a search on here and can't find any info on it. Has anyone heard of this model, or is it jusr vapour-ware?

The best cars are usually for Japan only.

Being the new shape yaris I doubt you will find much info on it yet, but it seems slow compared to the phase 1 & 2 turbo yaris that's available in Japan.

How much do you like the shape of the older yaris t-sports (phase 1 & 2).

Get one of them with TTE compressor works out cheaper and it's faster.

its nice dont get me wrong but an extra 40bhp from a turbo??? should be getting more then that imo but then again its probably been toned down a little to impro the fule consumption.

i'd like to see one of these pull up next to a fiesta ST at the light with the same bhp and roughly the same body size and weight it would be close

I do prefer the newer shape to be honest, looks meatier, but then thats just my opinion ;)

I had suspected it Auto Express may have mistakenly picked up on a new Vitz or something, I hope thats not the case :(

Although, the rear shot of the Yaris in that story appears to have fog lights (or maybe just reflectors):

Is the TTE Comressor limited to Yaris Imports (Vitz?) or are there UK Spec cars running about, also, what engine size is required?

To be honest if the new t-sport has the same 1.5 turbo from the mark 1 whilst the SR has the 1.8 engine, it will be a crying shame!

The 1.8 engine has soooooo much potential being tuned to only 140bhp as it is the same engine that is in the exige that has 230-240 bhp!!!

personally i'd go for the SR with the 1.8 and tune it to the same as the corrola and celica t-sports at 189BHP.

It must be pretty easy as the engine and its electronics will be almost exactly the same.

i think if they bring out a t-sport it will be 189BHP 1.8 engine. If not i may cry!

Yeh except it's a brand new 1.8 engine as far as i know, so all the stuff would have to be custom which means a lot of cash.

Yeah, the new 1.8 is a whole new unit. Nothing to do with the Celica and Corolla 1.8!

Really? wouldn't of thought they would of changed that much of it.

Surely just piston - conrods etc and diff compression ratio but would of thought the main casing engine mountings etc would be pretty similar.

is there any info online on the new engine????

Cheers

Brad =)

I dunno mate, search for the engine code for it. There was a post in the t-sport section from a french bloke who had seen it at the dealers. 1.8 is going to be poo anyway as 1.5 is the top in Japan & the states where all the aftermarket parts are going to be made, so there's not really going to be much available for it excpet springs, suspension and bodykits

the tte supercharger is for any 1.5 yaris, they are not specific to the Japanese one, althought most t-sports are made in Japan.

Kimi's running the only one in the UK.

As far as I am aware the new t-sport we are supposed to be getting over here is the 140BHP model which is slower than the current phase 2 t-sport.

I'm sure the new t-sport has a new 1.8 engine for better emissions and fuel economy.

The 2zz engine from the lotus is supercharged, and I doubt it's as easy as it seems changing everything about, nothing ever is.

As far as I am aware no one has done this on the celica club website as i'm sure they are different engines.

We already got new TS (they dont call it t-sport anymore) for sale.

What gearbox is likely to be paired to the 1.8 do you think? If its the same as one paired to higher powered Toyota 1.8's then there may be a lot of room for tuning. How much room is there in the Yaris engine bay with the 1.8?

As far as i'm aware, you're not getting a TS, only an SR which will have the same 1.8 engine as the rest of the European TS. So 132 HP
