driving up the motorway and the temperature warning light comes on, head gasket went coolant leaks out and car dies. I know a head gasket is a big job, any idea how much its going to be to fix it?

How much did you pay for your head gasket?

I've been quoted £1118 by the Toyota Dealer in Swindon. It seems a lot given they can't guarantee

it's the cause of my coolant issue.

Thats unlucky thats happened- a local garage should be able to do it for about £800......The actual seal that has blown only cost between 50p and £2. the rest of the money is for the labour because its a long job getting to that part of the engine then putting it alllll back together again.

Try local garage maybe and to cover urself when u sell the car, just by a genuine toyota head gasket...that way its a partial toyota history and u save money.
